Fate/Stay Night Episode 2-5 and 2-6

Archer is really starting to piss me off

Fate/Stay Night Episode 2-5 and 2-6

In the source material, there's a throwaway explanation for why Archer can survive without a master but saber can't. Some servants use up more mana by existing than others, kinda like how some people have higher basal metabolic rates. It's a total handwave, so I can see why it's not explained here. The original VN had 3 routes, one which was adapted in the movies, one in the UBW anime, one in the 2006 anime. You're meant to play the route adapted in the 2006 anime before this one, so you're supposed to come in knowing some stuff that you don't know here. It's kinda interesting to see what's effectively the middle 1/3 of a story adapted here; they've been surprisingly faithful to the source despite what must've been a big temptation to add or change things to deal with character arcs that aren't really fulfilled in this 1/3, or info you're supposed to go in knowing. The 1st arc / 2006 show fleshes out saber a lot more especially. I think there are some neat parallels between her (she really regrets becoming a hero because she didn't think she did good enough, while he regrets it due to massive burnout) but they added some scenes from her POV watching the emiya/archer battle to kinda cover that, it's neat how they did minimal changes to deal with what should be a huge adaptation issue. The 2006 show was faithful to the source until it got to Caster (about 3/4 of the way in) who dies in her first scene in the source; they not only threw in all her backstory from UBW (the 2nd source arc) but threw in a bunch of stuff about Sakura from the movies (3rd arc) so I'd say this does a way better job of adaptation.
