Odd Taxi Early Episode 13

You think that's weird, what if you saw animals as people? What if you considered your pet dog or cat the baby you never had? What if you dressed animals up in clothes and gave them human names and human food and talked to them just like they were people ... oooooooooh ....

This may be related to whatever audio files you’re referencing, Paul, but I watched this show on Crunchyroll, and it has a movie listed as season 2- I looked into it, and it seems like the movie is everything from season 1 plus an extended more conclusive ending- I haven’t watched it yet, I wasn’t sure if you were having him watch it or at least the end of it

I don't think it was from fan pressure as the audio stuff came out about the same time as the show

I didn't have a problem with the ambiguous ending because this is film noir. That genre is chock full of ambiguous endings and in almost all cases at least one bad guy gets away scot free. So this ending slots perfectly into that idea. In fact, it kind blows that they felt the need to provide a more clear ending, I'm assuming that came from fan pressure. There's a reason film noir is dying out.

I don't remember what else I had a problem with tbh. I think it was the ambiguous ending (does the killer, kill odokawa at the end?) but I don't dislike that anymore, if only because the audio stuff I linked before makes the ambiguous ending a lot less ambiguous A couple of big murder mystery authors wrote lists of rules for the genre and both of them broke their own rules in some of their books if they thought it was worth it; for similar logic, I'm fine with the show "cheating" on the people looking like animals even when Odokawa isn't around because I think the payoff is worth it. There's a live action sequel series that recently came out, where everyone is (as you would guess from live action) a human. If anyone knew that existed going into this, they'd probably figure out the animal thing xD

Face blindness is a form of visual agnosia (prosop-agnosia) but sadly it doesn't give you a super memory like the one our protagonist has. Apparently that sort of agnosia (where you recognize objects as the wrong thing) is associated with better memory (I like that the doctor falsely thinks Odokawa has synesthesia, a much more common memory-enhancing perceptual issue... doctors who are right first time in media are annoying) In episode 12, the gangster gorilla was sure the psycho ran out of bullets because he thought the psycho shot him, but it was the younger cop. I think bullets are hard enough to get in japan that the bullet counting thing could work. The way people react when Odokawa calls them the animal they are is much better on a rewatch >_<
