I also want to clarify that Sasuke's not a deadbeat. The best way to think about his situation in a real life scenario is that he's a soldier who's fighting overseas while Sakura's an army wife and his kid's a military brat. Sasuke and Sakura have an arrangement where she's to stay in the village to raise their daughter while he has to be out hopping dimensions looking for otherworldly threats, the man's not out chasing tail. They should be looked at as a military family but you also brought up the undercover aspect as well and as I mentioned in the youtube comments Sasuke and Sarada are the last of a bloodline so their eyes from where they get their power are very coveted so Sasuke knows his daughter can become a possible target one day not just because of her genes but also from his troubled past as a terrorist. Sasuke chooses to stay away so he won't lead enemies back to his family but in this case Sarada ran outside of the village's safety which is why she was almost captured. Sasuke has complete faith and trust in his wife and he knows nobody better will ever take care of her, so he knows even if he's not present his daughter's going to grow up to have a great life beside her mother. As a ninja you make sacrifices the way Naruto's done with his family and Sasuke having this wonderful family which he can't be a part of just adds to the tragedy of his character; one could say this is still part of his atonement in which he has to stay away so that his family can remain safe.

You know you're one of the few reactors who didn't believe the supposed reveal in episode 22, it just goes to show how emotionally intelligent you are. I don't know this for sure but I'd like to think the author did that to troll the Sasuke and Sakura haters by throwing them a bone that they might not have a kid together, only to pull the rug out and say gotcha that really is their kid. So this story is manga canon but it's not from the Boruto manga, it's from a short one-shot manga titled Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring which was a direct follow-up to Naruto's original manga since the ending showed a time jump of all the adult characters with their respective children. I've always told you Sasuke's the original author's favorite character and that one-shot manga was written and illustrated by him and it pre-dates Boruto's manga. I think the author wanted to highlight the differences between Boruto and Sarada's characters early on so people wouldn't get the impression Boruto wants to be like his dad who's the village hero and have Sasuke the former rouge ninja's kid be the one who wants to be Hokage. The anime omitted certain things from the manga because as I've said in the past they're biased against Sasuke and Sakura so they do things to make them look worse than how it was originally written. When Sasuke has that flashback to when he and Naruto are having that conversation, in the manga Sakura was also present along with the other Kage from the other villages so that means that they're the only ones who are allowed to know about Sasuke's top secret mission. Since other villages are involved you know it's something serious and it also means Sakura was acting like a ninja by keeping that info from her daughter because no one outside of that room is supposed to know the details of Sasuke's mission; so all Sakura could disclose to her daughter for many years was her dad was on a long term mission until she started asking the harder questions and that's why Sakura was being evasive.
