BLTN Review Podcast: Fortnite Save the World

Those of you who know, remember I mentioned months and months and months ago that I was thinking about doing a podcast where I just read my recent reviews out loud. Given that my desktop died a few weeks ago, I decided to give that a shot here and now with this rather-long review of Fortnite's lesser-known campaign mode.

I'm doing this because I've seen other websites translate their longer written articles in to podcasts you can listen to. This Fortnite review was about seven or eight pages long in Google Docs, so I figured it was a prime candidate.

I'm still mulling over whether or not this works, and I'd love to have feedback. I mean, I'm hugely proud of the way the podcast itself turned out, but it's weird in the sense that it's basically a video review minus the video part? Does that work? How does it fit in to the overall web of things I produce? But that also makes me wonder if I should even be doing written reviews at all.

At the same time, a good video from me nowadays is 3-6 months of work. Not counting the week it took me to write this review, putting the podcast together took me about a week and a half between recording, editing, and producing. (You may notice it opens with me stating an incorrect publishing date, that's because I didn't think the editing would take so long, but it ended up being worth it)

Since this could also be considered an accessibility feature for the vision impaired, these game review podcasts are not going to be paywalled. For Patreon donors, they will unfortunately live in the same feed as the monthly update podcast, but if that becomes a problem I will see what can be done to move them somewhere else. This isn't the sort of thing that will be published on a schedule, given how often I write articles, so I can't really apply to put it on Spotify or whatever else, I don't think. But that's far off future stuff.

I'm publishing this here on Patreon first, before the article goes live on bltn.net tomorrow, because I need to link this post in that post. Patreon donors are going to get a notification about this before the article is live, but I'll be updating this post tomorrow with a link to the actual article. Or you could just visit bltn.net for yourself.

Edit: Haha, I thought about it first thing when I woke up yesterday and didn't edit this post. Here's the link to the article! It has embedded videos and stuff, if you wanted to see the game in action.

I found the topic interesting too, since this part of Fortnite is something I hadn't reflected on for ages. It has felt forgotten, so it was really nice to hear about it. I think I was quite frankly just more motivated to "listen" to this review rather then read it. Personal preference though

This was excellent! I think it works excellently! Quite honestly, I think something like this with minimal video (essentially, even simpler then the Sonic 3 supplemental podcast. It could even be a still image with some type of visual effect, maybe like audio visualizer. Just a bit of flair but that's likely well enough) would work well on Youtube too, as long as its advertised as a podcast. In any case, I would personally love more podcasts like this.
