I think I forgot to turn on the layer with Willow's glasses! Will fix that in the morning.

Not really, it isolates mistakes to the one layer and prevents erasing good lines by mistake.

Am I missing something? Wouldn't that process of making a new layer for each stroke then flattening it in be equivalent to just making the stroke on the combined layer in the first place?
Graydon Armstrong
2025-02-20 04:02:40 +0000 UTC
i remember hearing a story about a webcomic artist who said that after every pen stroke he would flatten all the layers and then make a new layer for the penstroke.
However he doesn't have nearly the cast size and repeated settings or posting frequency, so that's probably more of an option.
I guess it's just interesting as an outsider to this art to hear people talk about their processes. I think my kiddo makes new layers frequently but doesn't really transfer them between pieces.

I just figured maybe Willow took off her glasses to relax at the coffee shop, as glasses-wearing people are sometimes wont to do, especially when they've been having quite a day of it. I know I do.

Willow, not your fault, at all. Hanners, not everything needs to be made a big deal of. As long as no harm was done, you should try to cut someone slack for reacting poorly in a *one-off* emotional situation.

Yes. I just finished commenting that too, right before I saw yours.
In my observation, even people who have a strong potential for dissociation via whatever non-neurotypical wiring is involved don't usually go there instantly, unless they've previously had to use it too many times.

And she was raised in a cult. [hit enter too soon, continuing.]
What concerns me is how she went straight to dissociating. Even people whose brains seem to be wired for easy dissociation don't usually go there *that* fast unless they were exposed to some form of abuse or severe neglect (which is also a form of abuse.)

I guess mid-20s makes sense for Hanners, maybe late 20s based on vibes (since I feel like Marten should be in his 30s now even if the timeline disagrees xD). 24 checks out for Willow, IMO.

Ah, so Willow isn't actually amazing at handling emotions and conflict after all... I wonder if she's just been working on it a lot (as in, therapy) due to her life experiences.
Or maybe she's good at controlling her own reactions to things but doesn't get that other people can still be a problem.

I would estimate Hanners to be no more than two years older than Willow. Hanners turned 22 roughly 2-3 years ago (in-universe timescale) and Willow was stated to be 23 less than a year ago.

I've been where Willow is. When you are taught at an early age to take responsibility for your own problems, that can be interpreted as avoiding acknowledging the role others play in our problems. This is just as unhealthy as avoiding responsibility, and can result in failure to manage the impact the irresponsibility or even malice of others on our lives
