Going Out For Cigarettes

"Abyssinia, Claire"?

prettydragoon

I'm guessing based on the other Replies that most people don't get the joke/Reference. *Insert Captain America "I Got That" meme here*

Churchill (formerly TeaBear)

Deep cut Jay.

David F

I can't remember anyone dying though, except Faye's dad, who doesn't really count.

Mark

There's been plenty of tragic and sad moments on QC - it wouldn't be that out of the ordinary to have a catastrophe like that

ItseMeeCarsten

@Stephen Of course, every lesbian couple has to have a cat, that's just the rules.

Clifton Royston

As a professional pilot, I think the first mistake would be winding up over the Sea of Japan on a trip from Northampton, Mass to offshore Nova Scotia.

Lightsabr2

It would be amazing payback, but I'm not sure how they would pull it off anyways – Claire negotiated for both her and Marten to visit Cubetown, and unless they're planning to already pack up and bring all their things just in case, that means Pintsize would wake up to an apartment without Claire and Marten but which they clearly didn't move out of.

Lucas Werkmeister

Hannelore enters the room with a telegram. "Claire and Marten's plane was shot down over the sea of Japan. It spun in. There were no survivors.""

Jay MacKinnon

Half the reasons I read QC and GWS are for the realistic difficult conversations with (better-off-)divorced moms (Aurelia/Claire/Clinton, Veronica/Marten, Carol/Hazel).

ValdVin

More and more, the companion AI system doesn't quite mesh with what the comic has become in the years since. Like, it would be super weird if human teenagers were sold for a one-time payment to strangers that a personality test said they would become friends with and they just lived together in perpetuity from then on.

Bill Silvia

It feels almost like this is set up for a way-too-serious juke a la CtrlAltDel 'loss'.

Lightsabr2

For some reason, Stephen, I read your comment as John and Yoko, which was a VERY shocking way to yank myself fully awake...

Joseph Bonnar

“No, the apartment has always had gas lighting.”

Mad Marie

Come to think of it, Pintsize and Marten have some kind of contractual companionship relationship, don't they? How are situations like this supposed to be handled, by the book? (I'm sure Momo would know.)

Daryl Sawyer

Yay and Roko have _always_ lived here. With their cat.

Stephen Wells

Waking up and finding them gone would be one thing, but rationality would dictate that they'd just left. For a full-scale prank, Marten would need to find another couple to take over his share of rent on the apartment, have them silently move in during the night, and persuade Faye & Bubbles to insist that they've been living there for years, and that she has no idea who this "Marten" or "Claire" could be that Pintsize is asking about.

Clifton Royston

I don't see how this means anyone has to leave the comic. We already move from zone to zone, the coffee shop, Roko's apartment, Union St. Robotics. Some of those places could be in different states and it wouldn't change much. So long as the people still have a reason to care for each other.

CaseyAEC

^ one part at a time, starting with the core processor

Mad Marie

Only for the initial shock value. Once Pintsize calms down she would probably shut him down and mail him to Martin.

Wait, Faye would be on board with Pintsize being left with her and Bubbles?

Matt Pedone

Ouch xDDD

enchantedsleeper

It's really interesting when Pintsize was in his previous body then, like Momo's old body or Windlow's, "take him with you" felt like it could be right. Now, in his full-sized body he's definitely a *person* (he always was) he'd have to want to (and be allowed) like anyone else.

David Durant

If he does not do this Μῶμος, (Momus) God of Mockery and Γελως (Gelos) God of Laughter will smite him hip and thigh. Please, Jeph, don't let them smite Marten. Besides, Pintsize has found his Tribe, and Marten and Claire simply aren't part of it.

Todd Ellner

Even better, Marten and Claire could ask their friendly neighborhood Spookybot to (temporarily) wipe all traces of them ever existing. That would be truly a God-tier prank, which Pintsize would greatly appreciate.

Evgeniy Semyonov

Marten, go home and have difficult conversations with your friends!

Bagge

I had assumed this whole arc was to finally write Marten out of the comic, but I wondered about Claire. If the actual outcome is "the cast all moves to sci-fiville" that'd be pretty rad

David Jackson

Not to try to guess where all this is going, but... there's a need in Cubetown for coffee, right? And someone to fix and mod robots? You see where I'm going with this.

Thomas A. Dennis

or for a nuclear comeuppance.

Sleepy John

Maybe he would fit right in.

Jeff Hartley

I can't say I agree with not telling him, but they definitely should *not* take Pintsize with them. Letting him loose in Cubetown is a recipe for global disaster.

awgiedawgie

God, I so sympathize on the small town thing.

Yelling Bird
