My inlaws had a non-working fireplace, and put their tv in it. Since they never used it other than to watch particular things, or rented movies on vhs (yes, it was that long ago), this meant it didn't take up any other room in the room. My husband got them a VHS of a yule log burning for christmas one year, and that was used every year after till my MIL died.

The desks at work before they remodeled the office (well, more like abandoned and rebuilt across the street) all had an adjustable platform in the corner for the monitor, which you could raise and lower to get the perfect height. Only the mechanism that countered the weight was designed in the CRT days, and it was impossible to adjust the mechanism down to the weight of even the heaviest TFTs. My solution involved wedging a book between the platform and the table to keep it in place, and putting another couple books under the monitor to adjust the height ...
