The simplest explanation for the knife is that Dora saw a tan, robust stranger walking into her house as if she owned the place, picked up a knife, and held it in icepick grip so that it was hidden behind her forearm. We never see her left hand till she shows the knife. Dora has evidently been some bad places, and is evidently left-handed.

"It really is her. Please no conspiracy theories..." That's exactly what you'd say if you were trying to cover up a CONSPIRACY.
