2019-07-09 12:56:35 +0000 UTCThe linguistic "diminutive" doesn't refer to the length of the word though, but to particular endings and the words made with them to indicate smallness. In English, such endings include -et and -ette (piglet, dinette, cigarette, diskette) as well as -ie and -y (doggy, bootie, Bobby, Debbie). So Yaaaaaaaayette is a diminutive of Yaaaaaaaay, Yay is a hypocorism, and Yayette is a diminutive of the hypocorism.

A "hypocorism" is a pet name that is generally unrelated to one's given name... for example, "Spookybot" is a hypocorism (but for pet names, I personally prefer the word "sobriquet").
