no giant scar on the face? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

sjlxndr

Wait, Australia you say... Just how sure are we that is Hanelore? <a href="http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1662" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1662</a>

Bagge

Strange seeing Hannelore so tan. Then again she may not be entirely baseline.

Brent Catherman

D’awwww! Tapirs’ flehmen response is the cutest thing!

Tapirs are the cutest!

Patrick Jackson

Still cute.

Hambone Fakenamington

Well, looks like that fear has yet to tapir off...

Will Weaver

Drop-bears are the ultimate in crowd control.

It's great to see what Hanners is up to. I'm glad she's taking the opportunity to face her fears. It makes me wonder though exactly how changed she'll be when she returns. After all, a trip like this can give you a very different outlook on life. She may also come back to a home she doesn't quite recognize, depending on how long she's gone and how much changes between now and then.

We don't have lions or tigers or cougars or jaguars, and the drop-bears only ever eat tourists...

Marc Pengryffyn

We're very proud of our deadly, weird and wonderful everythings. A few more wouldn't hurt, though.

David Paul

You shouldn't want everything. Deathworld already has lots of deadly and weird flora and fauna!

Ben Russell-Gough

It's only a creepy mini-trunk, Hannelore! You've faced far worse in Dora's basement!

Ben Russell-Gough

Writing as an Australian, I'm personally saddened that we don't have any tapirs here. Except in zoos. Not marsupial enough.

Marc Pengryffyn

It's not a phobia if it is a reasonable expression of mistrust

Bagge

As always it is the fault of: aliens. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSxI0OOjR0Y&amp;feature=youtu.be&amp;t=2m8s" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSxI0OOjR0Y&amp;feature=youtu.be&amp;t=2m8s</a> (2 minutes 8 seconds in)

Captain Button

Pretty sure the is the perfect illustration of someone noping the fuck out.

Caleb Lee

AAHHHHHH!

Chris Hewson

I don't think that is her first phobia. The fact that she got a tan and is in a park with all the fears about skin, dirt, and smells says this is probably further down the list. This is just the first one that Jeph has documented.

Stephen Smoogen

What you did there? I see it.

Sorastro

I seem to recall Tilly making note of a Tapir phobia in Hanner's dossier

Tim Williams

That isn't a snout, it is an ovipositor.

Captain Button

XDXD THAT IS TEN POUNDS OF "NOPE" IN A FIVE POUND BAG!

Me watching Hannelore get freaked out pushed very hard on the schadenfreude and sympathy buttons both.

Tannerbot

Pretty sure he has to keep a character file for each character. I know I would.

ducksauz

In the words of Mae from Night in the Woods: "NIGHTMARE FAAAAACE"

TMN

Wonder what lead her to try and overcome this particular phobia first? Doesn't seem like Tapirs would be much of a problem in her daily life.

Mitchell Sealy

Jeph how do you keep all this lore straight after 3700 comics...?

Dan Orlowitz

I think the weirdness comes from the way the snout narrows toward the end. Almost like it tapers off.... ...don't look at me like that. Have you any idea how hard it is to make a pun on tapir? &gt;.&gt;

Thomas Boys

Hannelore's phobias aren't going to tapier off now.

Andrew Mitchell

They are not to be trusted.

Gary Walker

Aww!

Patrick Mac Manus

Hair-old?

BobC

what phobia was it again?

darklion

tapir can be vicious <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/1998/11/21/us/national-news-briefs-zoo-keeper-loses-arm-as-animal-attacks-her.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.nytimes.com/1998/11/21/us/national-news-briefs-zoo-keeper-loses-arm-as-animal-attacks-her.html</a>

Mythosaur

The adults are weird lookin' though.

bruitist

Baby tapirs are exceptionally cute.

bruitist

I would love that too.

Richard

So happy to see Hanners!

Pizza-delivery it from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

Andrew

Yeah, no, that's a nope for me as well. That's not natural.

Nicholas Lopez

of course he did!

The Shadow's Lair

That last panel is gold. I gotta use that as a emote somehow.

tapirs!

The Shadow's Lair

Wait, I missed it. Winslow went with Hanners on her trip??
