They Have A Group DM Now

Agreed. I love her arc, and I hope to see her again one day.

Mordaeus

I really hope Hanelore's Wander Jahre will go something like Wil's

Bagge

Such well-executed character development. Also, so many feels at my favorite character leaving.

Sarah Manx

There once was a print on topatoco, and Pintsize was DM... but might not be available anymore? Turns up in google image search though: <a href="https://goo.gl/images/knU9va" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://goo.gl/images/knU9va</a>

Andrew

;_;

Brian

I think in Twitterspeak it means "direct message". Like an IRC channel, I guess? But, I too first thought that everyone was going to play D&amp;D.

David Paul

Direct message..

Tiff Leek

A thought... Alice Grove has ended. (Sadly. I LOVED that comic.) A new Patreon comic involving Hannelore and Winslow might be a great replacement. :)

No, you weren't. Now I wonder what DM means to Jeph :|

Clement Covemaeker

So, am I the only one who was wondering who the Group Dungeon Master was? ;)

Brad Knowles

@HannersElliChat has been dormant since 2010; now's the time to bring it back to life!

Jason Zions

Please tell me Hanners will actually tweet from the road and we can actually follow her on twitter. No reason not to do social media for reals...

Jason Zions

I wager one bottle of Midnight Hobo that Brun takes Hanners' spot at the coffee shop. Any takers?

Peter McDevitt

Man, after so many years you still surprise me. A great twist that fits perfectly in the storyline, told in a very very wise and effective way. You are ready for a written novel. Or a short movie

giacomo vaghi

THIS is why I continue to enjoy this comic: Great art and brilliant writing. Thanks.

Michael Booth

HAHAHAHAHHA

Jeph Jacques

I'd say Claire used exactly the right amount of emojis.

Diptych

I definitely mis-interpreted "Group DM" initially and quickly realized we were not suddenly diving into a D&amp;D storyline &gt;&gt;;;

Alenka Figa

could there be regular check ins on Hanners and Winslow?

Mike Robinson

Seriously on the verge of tears.

Oh, I miss watching them tweet at each other...

Bryan Freehan

Man, I wish I had a crippling mental illness and a psycho mom so I would have a reason to go walkabout and leave all of my comforts behind. I don't know if you are an idiot, Jayson, but you sound like one on the internet.

Oh, the heart strings! &lt;3

Matthew

TILLY: can i come back and visit sometime HANNERS: of course HANNERS: *leaves northhampton for an indefinite period of time*

Seth Aaron Hershman has they she pronouns

This is really sweet and I want to hug all of them &lt;3

Fart Captor

Hopefully we will get to see some of her adventuring!

Emerson

You aren't alone. I can't offer you my handkerchief because I need it myself right now.

Why do I feel like crying right now.

LJ

Must be nice to be a billionaire who can go off on a trip of indefinite length whenever you want to. Good thing there was a personal assistant to help her book the flight.

Adventures of Hanners! Yes please!

The Fire Piper

The Adventures of Hanners sounds like a great comic I'd read voraciously.

A Hannelore walkabout feels like it could have loads of potential.

Chris Hull

When the arc started, I wasn't a huge fan either, though I did my Webcomics 101 breathing exercise and everything was fine. ("Breathe in. Hold. Remember that conflict is a good thing since there is no story without it. And release. Breath in....") On this end of the arc, I've 180'd. This was really awesome. In fact, one of the signs of its quality was how many of us had such a negative reaction to Tilly at first. We empathized with Hanners almost unconsciously. We weren't supposed to like her at that point. Seeing Tilly learn boundaries let us learn to like Tilly. And then seeing Hannelore go Super-Hannelore for the first time (right down to spiky yellow hair!) and assert herself was amazing. And then, seeing her hug Tilly goodbye without a freakout, even as Tilly went to space... became the last moment of epiphany. For Hannelore, this was a moment of human contact purely because it was the right moment. And here's Tilly -- who's still discovering themself. Who just started to learn boundaries. Who is 'relentless,' which is to say compulsive, and very smart, and clearly very new to these experiences. Tilly... who is now going to Station, which was where Hannelore first started to come out of her shell, before she ever made it to Northampton. Hannelore didn't just send Tilly to be her father's assistant because it was a good fit for her talents -- though it apparently is. Hannelore sent Tilly to Station because Station was the first one that Hannelore connected with. The first one to help Hannelore emerge. I kept tracking all the hugs and comparing them, but the first moment of 'touch' Hannelore had was when she tried to lean against Station during their dinner date. And sure, she fell through his holographic body and it was a cute take... but it was that lean that led to her final hug with Tilly. Hannelore going out into the world makes sense. She has Winslow, who has been her companion for years (but who himself is just learning how to be himself in his new body) -- just like when she first arrived in Northampton. She's finally grown into herself. Now she needs to learn who that self is. Arc complete! Level up! (Count me among those who was sad Marigold didn't get the group DM. Unfortunately, Marigold is still pretty self absorbed, and despite Hannelore's best efforts she undoubtedly hasn't actually reached out to hang with Hannelore in quite some time.)

Eric Burns-White

Wow.. this wasn't the other shoe I was worried dropping from this thread.

Stephen Smoogen

The first time a group text made me feel feelings ๐Ÿ’–

Cosmic

Um... Anybody who's looked? ;)

Churchill (formerly TeaBear)

1. I'm sad Marigold wasn't included in the chat. I know it's been a while since we've seen her, but she WAS Hannelore's best friend, once upon a time. 2. Claire WOULD overuse emojis. 3. I can't say I super-enjoyed this story arc, but I am extremely here for Hannelore's character developing and her coming into her own.

Charlotte Grubbs

Yep. It's telling that something she once considered a lark or escape from the expectations of her parents is now home.

Charlotte Grubbs

LOL- I was wondering why Faye was being un-charatiscally quiet, and wow...Claire's last name is Augustus - who knew?

Shawn K. Younkin

I was gonna nitpick that suing the acronym "TBH" is pointless if you're gonna subsequently type it out, but then I realized that it perfectly fits Hannelore's personality.

Rob McBobson

Wow. Hanners fleeing her own anger, is actually entering a far more disruptive and challenging life. Land in Madrid or Rio or Vancouver and have to learn all new amenities, local norms, foods and cleaning supplies? And I am so glad modest little Winslow will be with her.

Holly Nelson

As do I. To me, spelling and grammar are part of language, not condiments to add or not at a whim. They're a way to convey tone of voice and subtle differences in meaning. Unless Iโ€™m kidnaped and tapping out a code on a water pipe with my forehead, compressed communication doesnโ€™t work for me.

Holly Nelson

TBH (to be honest), I love that thereโ€™s a group chat that we rarely if ever see full of dank memes. Show us the memes!!

Gino Arizmendi

OMG, Hanners, way to go girl. Good stuff.

Denise Webber

Love the DM art, very cool way to expand your medium

Timmy

Have Bot, Will Travel.

Captain Button

Pleas come to Northhampton, with the snowfall...

Captain Button

Hope she doesn't accidentally visit some of Steve's old haunts...

Captain Button

You know what this means. Lot's of one-shots of Hanners having 'improbable' adventures!

Paul Rendell

Would love to see pics of Hanners' globetrotting on her Twitter!!

Mister Cletus

Helluva way to start the year!

Brent Catherman

Holy crap! major story lines ahead!

You know, I thought Hanners hanging out with the gang *was* her "going away for awhile."

Carl Cravens

Agreed! This will really shake up the status quo, and that can be a great thing for stories that have gone on for so long. You're taking a risk, but I hope (and expect) that it will pay off. Looking forward to 2018 and new stories!

Haldon Lindstrom

๐Ÿ˜ฑOMG

Bagge

This is like the back story of a late 80's ABC drama. A girl and her robot buddy walk the earth, having adventures and shit.

Gary Walker

What if the B52 was MAY?

Eric Sieck

Hanners. :(

Flounder

This is a *genius* plot twist with a *genius* execution, Jeph. Excellent strip! Looking forward to seeing how this develops.

MyOtheHedgeFox

Will Tilly survive space? Will Hanners become an international super spy?!? WHO WILL MAKE BUBBLES HER UNICORN TEA!?! TOO MANY QUESTIONS!!!

Kinda Squirrely

Hannelore: The Wandering Years

Owen Smith

This is perfect. And now I have to go and be sad that Hanners is going away for a while. &lt;3 :(

Gillian Brown

Poor Hannelore! She showed real strength standing up to her mother and defending Tilly. Doing something so far outside your comfort zone, so... dramatic, must have really taken its toll on Henners' state of mind and well-being. Please come back to us again, Hanners! I mean... to Northampton, and all your friends there!

David Paul

I assumed it was Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter.

Marc Kevin Hall

I wanna say Clinton? Not sure though...

Wait, Jack is a bitch? Jack who? Not daniels??? :(

I am drawing a blank on the last person in this group - we have: Hanners, Marten, Dora, Faye, Claire, Tai, .... and who is number 7? The greyscale icon in the group of 4 up the top. Marigold?

Andrew

Faye is all of us.

Celine Chamberlin

Faye at the end there, lol

Czarzhan

No, it's a Questionable Continent. He's expanding.

BobC

Buy me a ticket on an aeroplane. Ain't got time to take a fast train.

BobC

Yo Jeph, might want to have another look at the byline, bottom left. Or is questionablecotntent.net clickbait? :)

Andrew

I totally misread Claire's message as 'Self-Claire is important'. That's pretty in keeping with her character. xD I look forward to a Hanners vacation storyline!

Chris Hewson

Omg Iโ€™m so sad! Iโ€™ll miss Hanners so much ๐Ÿ˜ญ Iโ€™m so proud of her though!!

Of *course* Hanners uses correct spelling and grammar when messaging. Just another reason to love her.

1: I'd REALLY like to commandeer a B52. That would be kick-ass. 2: Hanners is awesome. 3: I have friends like this. Wouldn't be alive without them.

Omg

Sian

I'm so damn proud of Hanners but I'm going to miss her like crazy. I hope she won't be gone too long, and that you'll show us some of her adventures.

Celine Chamberlin

3rd day of 2018 and the comic is already reaching new levels of awesome - love this so much!

They're being really wonderful and supportive, and I'm so happy for Hannelore and the steps she's taking, how far she's come since she was introduced... But I cried a little. Please show us what she's up to from time to time!

We'll miss Hannelore too.

Ian
