She Really Blue It

Comments

I must apologise for assuming Taffy, er Tilly. was a woman when they first appeared.

Mark

Leave martin alone he's a good egg

Dylan T

Any minute now... Really soon... I'm expecting a round from an orbital railgun. Or a pizza. Either would work as a plot device.

BobC

Why am I not surprised that this difficult situation had to be defused by Mary Sue, I mean, by Martin?

Ross

Arglebraghbthhh! TWO uses of they/them in relatively-well-known media in the last month? I'm not going to lie - kinda overcome with joy about this. Thanks for keeping it classy! (Well, maybe not "classy" per se, but...)

Geo (Overand)

in the second to last panel, it looks like hanners is actually reading the word bubble in real time hanners can see past the 4th wall

Waffliesinyoface

Normalizing is so important. I'm trying to include pronouns in my own introductions more, even though I am predictably he/him. It's teaching people not to assume, though. On the same token - pronouns aren't "preferred," they're just your pronouns. "Preferred" seems too much like "optional" to me. I'm still working on ditching "preferred" myself, as my soon-to-be stepdaughter recently came out as nonbinary.

TubaGinger

Now I just want a nice tea-time conversation about some weird hypothetical between Claire, Tilly, and Emily... preferably on a t-shirt..

Emerson

Whew, I just realized in the last comic that Hannelore wasn't using random misnamings, but propogating her mom's. Wow, that's really going to tear a scar on the psyche.

Richard

Also, poor Hannelore! I knew she was going to feel badly when she realized she'd been getting Tilly's name wrong... and I knew it was mama's mistake that put us here. I like Tilly. <3

YESSSS!!! Finally Tilly gets the opportunity to assert their identity! I noticed Jeph refer to Tilly as "they" early on and then forgot about it until now. I thought all my satisfaction would come from Tilly's assertion of their proper name, but I got the added bonus of their pronouns being set clear as well. AHHHHH thank you Jeph!!

Just realised I missed one in the Patreon-exclusive captions. Jeph used 'she' in the caption on [3619], Nov 22nd.

Jessi Lloyd

Some thing I love about Jeph's (your) work is the background social consciousness. People aren't perfect and have been referring to Tilly with female pronouns which is realistic. But I don't think I can remember another story where someone introduced themselves including their preferred pronouns. Let alone having atypical pronouns.

Makeshift Razor

Went back and checked all pronoun-references to Tilly. First was Hannelore's mother [3607], who obviously doesn't care about referring to Tilly properly. Then Hanners uses 'she' when introducing Tilly to Dora [3614]. Dora & Hanners then continue to use she/her when discussing Tilly [3616]. Jeph doesn't use any pronoun to refer to Tilly until the caption of [3623], where he uses 'her', and I'd say that in today's title [3624], 'she' refers to Hanners. Note to Jeph: you could easily change the caption of [3623] to not use a pronoun for Tilly. Either "I chose green for Tilly's bag..." or "...green for the bag..." would work imo.

Jessi Lloyd

I hope you're not intending that to be a positive reference... those sketches are terrible, and very rude to nonbinary people.

Asher Rose Fox

Tilly's got cute little freckles 😍

Fart Captor

I am a Taffy fan to the end.

William Burns

Tilly was sending a major Pat vibe (the SNL character), wanting to be addressed as they/them confirms it.

Antonio E Gonzalez

The "She" in the title is referring to Hanners, and how she blew it with Tilly's name. But played off Tilly's obsession over something like not getting Hanners' favorite color right.

John-Eric Clements

and we learn it was not on purpose or malice, just following initial Voice Of Authority. then too frazzled by the intrusion for updates to sink in yet :)

Donald Randolph

Are Tilly legion? heh

Freya Thurell

Forgive my ignorance... Tilly just said she uses they/them pronouns... does that mean instead of She we should be saying "Tilly just said they use "they / them" pronouns" ? So "They" really Blue it?

Freya Thurell

Jeph, you are good people.

Brian

It seems like Marten has really grown from his shyness at the beginning of the comic. I like seeing changes like that.

Brian

thank god Hanners finally got corrected

JD

Tilly? Meeting Claire? Or *shudders* Emily? (The possibilities, OH, the possibilities there.)

That's what Tilly uses, anyone else can use whatever they want =D (idk idgaf myself but I try to avoid mentioning gender anyway)

Minzoku Bokumetsu

OMG, do it. Do it do it do it!

Scott Gagon

really cool to see tilly confirmed as going by they/them! but I'm confused about why notes on some pages (even this one?) seem to be referring to them as she/her

Mars

Another thank-you from a nonbinary reader. <3

Asher Rose Fox

The encounter could create a time paradox, the result of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the spacetime continuum and destroy the entire universe!

Captain Button

I love how Marten walks in and just cuts right to the chase - β€œis it Tilly or Taffy?” He’s never afraid to just ask.

Pungularity?

Julia Allen-Hesse

I'm pretty sure Tilly really greened it, and that was a problem (at least, by their reckoning).

K the Nerd

Oh God, Claire and Tilly would destroy the universe with puns.

Will Weaver

Please have them meet soon, OMG

Erin Moriarty

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singular_they

Matthew Harrison

AFAIK, singular they/them is generally used as a non-gendered pronoun. Applied to a specific person like this it implies Tilly 's gender is non-binary.

Neil Fein

I am confused by the they them pronouns, can someone give me an explanation as to why and who they descrive.

Drakoo Dreamer

ME TOO! Thank you for representation Jeph (not of me, personally, but of a good many friends)

Sian

They really blue it? Or are you talking about Hanners?

Sian

He really is playing the long game with this story.

JD

There's a character with they/them pronouns? I'm crying in the club Jeph thank you.
