OMG Turkeys 2017

I have a friend who told me this week she can't afford the premium increase with the executive order subsidy dismantling. Since her husband has chronic health issues, she plans to spend what would have been a $1400/month increase for the two of them (for a plan with already an over $5k deductible) on actual health services and his medication. She is hoping to make do for the next two years till he qualifies for medicaid. The goal should be care, not insurance, with doctors and care workers getting a fair wage (most doctors start their careers in massive debt, and the most basic (pediatricians, general practitioners), do not get as high a wage a people imagine), infrastructure is maintained, outreach and public health programs that improve people's lives (and reduce their lifetime medical expenses) are supported, research is done. I can dream. And hope that balancing profits (in what is legislated to be a non-profit industry) and benefitting society can be equitably balanced. Why exist if we do not improve the world we live in, in whatever ways, small or large, that we can?

We can often get better service but prices are ridiculous. The big concern for many of us Americans is what the Trump administration is doing and not doing with the healthcare system (From my understanding they're basically dismantling Obama's system without properly replacing it//For the record I strongly disliked all of our presidential candidates but each one has at least some good policies). While I'm in pretty good shape for the most part it's possible that my premiums will go up and some of my friends are unable to work due to health conditions so they could end up hurt. Note: This is as far as I'm willing to go into politics here, I have friends on both sides of the political spectrum and I try to remain as neutral as possible.

Thanks, I did not know that.

I've considered it but TBH it makes more sense to keep running it on US thanksgiving since 80% of my audience isn't online that day anyway

Until you need care of a more urgent nature. Then be prepared to wait.

Infected snood! Lol beard nets.

Matt

Snood! I loved that game.

Welcome to Canada! :)

.... Curious question, have you thought about moving the annual turkey comic to October now that you live in Canada (when Thanksgiving *really* happens!! 😜😝)

Julienne Ignace

Wait you moved to canada? Long belated welcome!

I occasionally whine about the UKs healthcare system and then I remind myself that at least it's not the American one. Happy turkey and pumpkin pie day to those who celebrate such stuff.

Mike Rodgers

I'm not American and as someone with a socialized healthcare system this is perfection

Comparing American healthcare to an infected snood seems unfair to the snood.

A peacock's display is directly proportional to its overall health - if a peacock's immune system is stimulated, it will display less frequently. So, apt indeed!
