That Will Void The Warranty

She already served her time, though. She's been nothing but an honest (if incredibly crass) citizen since she got out. She is oppressed because the way the prison system works punishes you for life for felonies--we see in an earlier comic that she gets rejected from a handful of jobs for being a felon even though she's trying her damn hardest to be an honest person now.

Dolan

Just pointing out that many people end up "in the clink" BECAUSE they started out at a disadvantage. Just sayin' And you don't have to be "nice" to still deserve a better situation than you're stuck with. Also, it's not like she tore him a new one. She just wasn't all "YAY, how glad I am that you have advantages I'll never have!" See the diff?

Kerin Schiesser

She hasn't paid it off yet. These are expensive, like cars. Most of her money probably goes toward that. Perhaps she is also making payments on fines and damages related to her crime?

Waitaminute. May's on inmate release after being in the clink. Last couple strips have tried to paint her as "oppressed". Though she's at a lower station in [artificial] life than other AIs, she's there of her own accord. Just a little peeve of mine.

An "Imperial Unit of Measure", if you please...

BobC

So... May should work with Pint-Size. He's a business partner AND a unit of measure!

It cuts both ways; getting pissed at someone you know who got lucky ( and let's be honest, Winslow got lucky when met Hanners) is kinda sad, especially considering what he had before. 'sides, if he hadn't talked to May, it's likely she'd go off on him for not saying anything when they next met and Winslow would walk away just as confused as he is now. Hmm... Now I'm wondering what May spends her paycheck on outside of rent and possibly utilities. Since she doesn't eat and doesn't seem like a close horse, where does it go? Is her chassis such a lemon that she has to constantly pay to fix it? (This is assuming she can get 40 hour work week at something above min-wage for the area)

Anyone shipping MayMo now after that shoulder nudge in panel 5?

Travis Wedding

I think that's kind of the point. Sometimes 'check your privilege' really isn't more complicated than being aware that what to you is something you want to share, to someone else is a reminder of everything they have suffered. Winslow doesn't need to feel guilty over May's reaction - he needs to cultivate awareness about what those around him are feeling. Ironically, Pintsize is usually pretty good about this - he's always pushing the envelope, but he's usually aware of which buttons he shouldn't press.

Haldon Lindstrom

Winslow's personality is so child-like, this story kind of feels like seeing an adult cuss out an eleven-year-old who wanted to show off the new bike their parents bought them.

Diptych

I hear they have hand-coverings now, which also keep the gunk out of the gears.

Cleo Schmitz

I don't say she's right. I just say her reaction is understandable and in character.

Gary Walker

While May's reaction is understandable, I still think it's obnoxious that she's equating herself to someone facing structural inequality when she alone is responsible for the situation she's in. The Man wasn't the one who stole hundreds of millions of dollars to become a fighter jet, May.

Charlotte Grubbs

Nobody likes owning their privilege and the impact it has on people who don't share it. As Bubbles said, it's a painful and confusing event. And I'm kind of suspecting that part of the reason for May's attitude is that she doesn't like having to confront her own lack of privilege (which is, after all, her own fault--and exactly nobody likes dealing with stuff that is their own damned fault). Privilege is complicated and this is an interesting way of dealing with it in the comic. I'm very interested to see where this story goes, especially if it goes to May/Moose/Barry 3-way.

Gary Walker

You gonna be all right mate? Being serious.

jeff fearnow

I feel that Winslow might be the type of person who, upon realizing the reality of May's situation, might decide to help her out of it. I mean, if he gets a job, it's not like he needs to pay off his own body, and I don't remember Hannelore asking him for rent, so he could do whatever he wants with any money he makes. Heck, he might even be able to talk Hannelore into helping May out.

Snippytorque

Here's what I came away from this with: "Maybe anyone who can't come to the obvious conclusion no matter how hard they 'think about it' doesn't deserve to live." Moments like this that I get mad at my birth parents for not just going through with the abortion like they were supposed to.

Unanimous D

I feel like as Momo wasn't there she will take May at her word?

Richard J

Of course May is in the wrong. She is a criminal, and it wasn't any sort of "Travesty of Justice". She is short sighted, selfish, and stupid. And if she wants a better body, I'll bet there are dozens of guys would would be happy to pay her to cheat at Drone Joust. She would be flying too..........

Interesting how Momo sides with May on this. Diplomacy, or is that how she really feels?

Firefly Jelly

May is wrong on this because moose deserve non-pinchy handjobs too.

Gary Walker

May and a Moose.

Gary Walker

Bullwinkle does make risqué remarks from time to time, but not to Rocky -- to the adults in the audience. R: "But they're GIRLS, Bullwinkle! How can you have fun with girls?" B [leering across the fourth wall]: "Well, this is a children's program, after all."

Chas Simmons

I'm still going with May is in the wrong on this one. Winslow wasn't flaunting anything. He was excited and she got bent out of shape for no reason.

May-Barry. My new ship.

You're name hear

May got her face dermal replaced just before the business with CW went down.

Mark P.

What was Jack doing on the moose in the first place?!?

Alacrity Fitzhugh

...Is she not wearing the facial dermal covering anymore?

Joseph Houk

Convincing them to do so would be a whole other thing.

Scarlett B

I love the shoulder-nudge. Eeeeee!

Andrew

I'm pretty sure either of Hannelore's parents could wipe May's criminal record and buy her a new body if she wanted one.

Scarlett B

"Hey Rocky, check out what this robot lady's doing to me!"

Antonio E Gonzalez

have you ever seen a Moose?

WHAT DOES SHE NEED THE HELMET FOR???

Danya Michael

The sign: NO JACKING

Andy Sleeper

A moose once bit my sister...
