i really enjoy mike's expressions in the last two panels, especially compared to the hostile looks before. he's interpreted previous conversations about sandy as attacks, and paulo's call on halloween definitely wasn't GREAT, even if we the audience might've found it cathartic. but in the last panels it looks like he was ready for pushback and didn't get it, so paulo immediately backing off and apologizing softened him a little. it WAS a genuine inquiry out of concern, not an attack, and it looks like he feels bad for snapping. idk, it's a nice detail. i really WANT him to be able to have genuine conversations with his friends about how he's feeling and about his relationship issues even if he's reluctant to admit there ARE issues. i feel like he's getting there, and paulo's type of respectful approach here is better than needling him.

2021-02-16 16:44:15 +0000 UTCThere’s a really neat framing thing happening in this page here: We can’t see Lucy’s face when Paulo addresses Mike. Because of this, we're left to wonder how exactly she’s feeling. Ever since Lucy's return, Lucy hasn't allowed much of the Roseville crew in, but she's remained especially distant from Mike despite his numerous attempts to rile her up. Turning her face away builds this tension for us (the readers) that could make a possible Mike and Lucy confrontation feel much more heightened and emotional. And I mean, I don’t know for certain that we’re headed that way, but if we are, then I am prepared to hurt!!!
