ART: Carrie & Otterly Sketches

After a pretty long burnout period I've started to have some art inspiration again, so here's a couple of quick pieces...both sort of inspired by television.

One is Carrie, a painter cat. One of my guilty pleasures is Netflix's trashy reality show The Circle, and the most recent season had a really charming contestant, Yu Ling, who had some really wild and expressive makeup and fashion. She was sort of the inspiration for this character. I have ideas for a sister and a best friend for her kicking around in my head, but I won't say any more unless I get them on paper.

Secondly, I was watching Nathan Fielder's show The Rehearsal with my buddy Otterly, and they said "DRAW ME IN THAT" when this hoodie and fanny pack outfit came onscreen. And it was a good fit, so here we are. I'd also wanted to experiment with giving their character a kind of a short ponytail, so I tried that out here. It may stick around. (Also, in the nude version, I remembered to include the bite scar this time)

In both of these I'm trying to push toward a more human body type. I've enjoyed seeing what I can do with Zootopia-proportioned characters ever since I started, and I'm definitely going to keep that style in the tool belt, but it makes poses and anatomy pretty challenging, and can complicate reads on stuff like character ages. So we'll see! One thing I've wanted to do is keep pushing outside of my comfort zone with this art, and I think this is an opportunity for me to get to work learning some real anatomy.

Beanbag hips =D

It's tricky! The worst I think is trying to turn their beanbag hips and legs into something that can fit the bits, haha.

'Zootopia-proportioned characters... anatomy is pretty challenging, and can complicate reads on stuff like character ages.' Woof THIS. It's a constant struggle to get them looking on model, sexy, and importantly adult. I've always loved how you handle the long torso's and short legs look! But equally excited to see you move away and experiment =D These two illustrations are fabbbb.

Welcome back from The Burnout Zone -- any stay there is a stay too long.
