Spent the weekend trying to find a way to make convincing looking 90s animation stills, for reasons. First picture is my latest attempt, which im pretty happy with but doesn't feel quite there... These were both relatively quick pieces so at some point id like to give it more time and try making some nice backgrounds with actual watercolor.
wonder if anyone can spot the reference shot for the coffee pic :)

I genuinely thought it was a GIF that wasn't playing for some reason, for a few seconds there, so I think you nailed the look. :3
