Games that Won't Leave the Dark

Im astounded by the detail in White Shadows, I’m watching a playthrough and really enjoying it so far. The developers for all of the games in this video are probably getting a lot of love right now, which may help fund more creative, unique experiences in the future :) really great writing in this video, too, I love the way things all tied together thematically!

Thank you for sharing! ❤️

I just finished Year Walk a few days ago which had a brief overview of a handful of different Swedish folktales, the most disturbing of which was probably the Mylings. I'd never heard of them before either, so it was weird to hear about them again so soon. I think I'll watch the video on Scandinavian Folklore and maybe check out Bramble. I'd like to check out the other games eventually too, except Greener Grass Awaits because, while I think it's genius, I don't think my poor heart could take it lol.

Thank you for this perspective!! Really interesting to hear.

We know the devil their previous game is very short but the atmosphere and art are so good if you haven’t checked it out already. It’s more queer cosmic horror than sci-fi but it’s very much a short story of a game.

I think I might have heard of this one from Jacob Geller but I recently played Heaven Will be Mine and was utterly blown away. I will be pining for something replicate it for years to come.

I hope you don't mind me adding a comment Re:The new Nebula extra video here. I really liked this video first of all, I've watched a play-through of Exit 8 (I cannot play it myself for safety reasons but watching it is sufficiently detached from me to be okay) and I really liked the conceit. I suffer from periodic psychosis as a result of various mental health issues and I'd actually say while I don't believe it was the dev's intent to depict psychosis or pre-psychosis, it ended up being a very astute depiction of the banality of living with it.. You can learn safe ways of reality checking yourself in therapy and eventually you get really good at noticing tiny little triggers, like "is there a bubble on that wallpaper just for normal wallpaper reasons or did it just manifest and is about to spread other bubbles through the room like mould?" Or: "is that sound Diegetic or is it an auditory?" (my least favourite trick my brain plays on me is having a tap dripping somewhere it's like water torture but you have to get up and check all the taps.) I think because psychotic and schizospec people have been so consistently demonized in media that the normality of our lives get ignored. So when you have a good depiction it isn't obvious to people who can't recognise it.

I genuinely love the commitment to putting Anatomy in whenever you can truly a classic, also I know we're almost done but have a good Passover!

Obscure indie titles my beloved <3 Could the phone calls 38 and 39 make be related? You also mentioned a phone call by an antagonistic character - is telecommunication a running theme?

A tiny indie horror fishing game I really loved is 'Mysteries Under Lake Ophelia'. It's just got great vibes being both peaceful and disquieting, makes clever use of janky mechanics, and has an ending that's stuck with me.

Let’s goooooooooooo
