The Red Sleeve Ep. 14

First off, we're sorry this one is so long. We vented a LOT because we got really ticked off, and hopefully you all don't get too mad at us for that.

King San's new concubine isn't doing so well in the palace, and when she passes away, her brother declares to find who murdered her. While this is going on, maids start to disappear, including one that is close to Deok Im. But while Deok Im and San both attempt to handle each issue in different ways, its clear there's a riff happening between the two of them, and in our opinions, Deok Im crosses some serious lines.

In case you haven't noticed, this is the first time San wore his King's attire to meet Deokim privately at the library (a special place for them). Someone analyzed this as the first time he is speaking to Deokim as a King to a maid to show how serious the matter is and demonstrate his power. In fact, based on the norm in that particular period in histroy (not that I agree), as a King, he doesn't need to show that much respect to a maid. But, he respects her a lot by ignoring all the ranking/social classes difference and cares about her feelings and wills (he can always force her to do what he wants but never did), this makes her always speaks her mind freely and crossing the line. She reacted like before (speaking her mind freely/even lying to hurt him out of anger) without realizing how serious he is. It's a limit of how much pain & hurt a person can take 💔 No worries, I was upset with Deokim too in that situation when the episode is aired

when they are talking about the Queen Dowager, they are referring to San’s grandma! The Queen is San’s Queen! The Queen Dowager has the authority to go against him, but not the Queen!

To give you a bit more information on the role of the royal observatory: one of their roles was to plan moments of coitus between the king and his queen/ concubines, so often sexual intercourse wasn't spontaneous. It was also their role to pick out favorable dates to increase the chances of pregnancy. Another reason it was often planned was to decrease arguments of favoritism. But of course this system is very sensitive to bribes, so most likely a lot officials in the past would have bribed the observatory to ensure the concubine affiliated with their party was chosen more often. Regarding Deok-im I understand and share your frustrations with the halfassed rejections, but I also understand her points of view. She doesn't want to share her person with anyone and that is something San can't change. He will have to bed new concubines and his queen at some point, maybe without the affection he gives her but she will have to share him nonetheless. It would be a hard no for me as well. And Deok-im is someone who wants freedom, but as a concubine she will have none. And it's not like San can change that for her, because the Queen-Dowager is in charge of that aspect. But like I said earlier it would have been much less painful for San if she just admitted her feelings and gave her reasons for why it can't happen, cause then at least the parties could try to move on.

Historically speaking San had to wait 15 years for Deokim
