A small update
Added 2024-11-15 12:08:33 +0000 UTCHello Patrons!
I wanted to share some exciting updates about what I’ve been working on recently. There’s been a lot of progress across both GammaOS Core and GammaOS Next, and I’m thrilled to give you a sneak peek at what’s coming your way.
GammaOS Core Beta 2 Finalization
The GammaOS Core Beta 2 build is nearing completion, and this will likely mark the first public release of GammaOS Core v1! As a thank-you for your support, Patreon subscribers will get early access to the release before it’s made available to the public.
What’s New in GammaOS Core?
Improved Memory Usage: Optimized to provide better performance and stability, especially for low-memory devices.
Device Support: Added support for the Powkiddy X55.
Customizable Settings: New options to enable/disable 32-bit mode on Android and to disable/enable WebView for even better memory usage on low-memory devices.
Updated Default Apps: Including the Daijisho launcher and pre-configured emulators for a more plug-and-play experience.
GKD Bubble Work-in-Progress
I’m still working on bringing GammaOS Core to the GKD Bubble. There are two key issues to resolve:
WiFi HAL Driver: Compatibility issues with the Bubble’s implementation.
Headphone Detection: Currently broken, but actively being addressed.
Once these are resolved, the GKD Bubble will join the list of supported devices in GammaOS Core v1.
Transition to GammaOS Next
With GammaOS Core reaching its final phase, my focus will shift fully to GammaOS Next, designed for the next generation of devices. The first rollout will target the Anbernic xx6 series, which features the Unisoc T820 chipset.
GammaOS Next is already running on T820 devices. The first beta will be a minimal release, aiming for parity with the existing GammaOS (Android 12). From there, development will expand into exciting new features:
Joystick Calibration Settings: Fine-tune your controls for a better gaming experience.
Cardinal Snapping Refinement: Improved accuracy for joystick movements.
Button mapping: You'll be able to set your own button mappings.
Scoped Storage Removal: Greater flexibility for file access.
Battery Optimization: Extending battery life remains a key priority.
Additional Display Modes: Support for 30Hz, 40Hz, 50Hz, and 60Hz options on certain devices.
GPU Overclocking the Snapdragon 865
I’ve made significant progress on GPU overclocking:
Achieved overclocking on the SD865 chipset up to 0.95GHz, with results dependent on the specific device. Check out this benchmark for the Retroid Pocket 5 with OC: Geekbench Results.
Check out the stock score for the SD865: Geekbench Stock Score.
For the Unisoc T820, investigation into GPU overclocking is ongoing, and while the kernel hasn’t rejected my attempts so far, there’s still work to be done to ensure stability.
Battery Life Achievements
On the Retroid Pocket Mini, I’ve managed to achieve an impressive 24 hours of screen-on time while running Genesis games with GammaOS. You can see more details here: YouTube Video.
Unbrickers Now Available
I’ve also added unbrickers for the Anbernic RG406V, Retroid Pocket Mini, and Retroid Pocket 5. These are now available on my GitHub.
Cardinal Snapping fixes for Anbernic XX line
My work on the Anbernic XX line has been merged into muOS and Knulli CFWs! It also looks like Anbernic has incorporated some of my fixes into the CubeXX model, though not perfect. It's still a lot better than what previous stock firmware did with the sticks.
What’s Next?
As GammaOS Core reaches completion, and GammaOS Next development ramps up, I’ll be focusing on:
Finalizing the GKD Bubble support.
Delivering the GammaOS Core public release.
Expanding and refining GammaOS Next features, starting with the xx6 series.
As for timelines, I don’t anticipate that bringing T820 support will actually take much time now. Stay tuned for updates!
Thank you so much for your support! Your backing makes it possible for me to continue pushing these projects forward and bringing new and exciting features to the devices we love.
Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, feel free to share your thoughts or ask questions. Your feedback is invaluable.
Cheers, Gamma

2024-11-15 12:26:39 +0000 UTCOne thing that I would absolutely love to see is the option to disable the low battery light on the RG Cube. It is incredibly strong when playing at night. Is that possible?
