Bonus video! Anne Hathaway lied to get a part in Brokeback Mountain

Okay, sure, Anne Hathaway told a little lie during her audition for Brokeback Mountain. But can you blame her for not wanting to do Princess Diaries sequels for the rest of her life?

Anne's little fib helped her land the part, but that was just one many problems faced by the film. Today, Brokeback Mountain is regarded as one of the greatest movies ever made (at least, regarded that way by me) ... but back in the early 2000s, it was nearly impossible to find stars willing to appear in a gay romance. This week's bonus video is about just a few of the road bumps that the film ran into, and why there were numerous points at which it looked like it might never get made.

I really didn't appreciate the film the first time I saw it at the theatre. I thought, oh god another somber, sad movie where the gays die/get killed/commit suicide, and there had been so much hype! When I saw the film on TV at home years later, I really appreciated it more! I don't know if it was just me being in a mood the first time, or what? But I think it's really a small intimate movie that may benefit from seeing it in a quiet home setting.

Hi Matt, thanks for the Bonus video, one correction: Almodovar did not direct Y tu mamá también, the Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón did.
