Cat Breed Guide: Siamese!

Good Monday My Garfields!! I'm feeling much better! Does anyone else's evil social media algorithm start showing them all the brand new disease outbreaks the second they start feeling stuffy? I'm like well I don't THINK i got mad cow disease HD reboot or super incurable gonorrhea strain #2 fast 2 furious, since im vegan and a sexless nerd, but i... i cant be too sure....

ANYWAYS. This week's breed was suggested by Anna King, Franko, Katie, Greenbeans, Eden Laing, Kai Vee, and Bel Tamtu. Thanks guys!! Although the wedge-head vs applehead battle rages on, I know in my heart both of them love to scream, and that's all that really matters.

I'd love to own a copy of the Tamra Maew. Lookin for a good scan but google can be useless when you're looking for academic papers and library/museum catalogues, especially nowadays. Sometimes I can find really great scans of old medieval manuscripts, some even completely translated, which gives me hope that someday I can read all the cat poems...

This was the best I could find, and has most of the cats as well as some translation, which is absolutely delightful and I think you will enjoy looking at them:

and here's some more illustrations, I love how most cats are portrayed as standing on a table because, hell yeah, shit don't change:

It's neat to see some coat patterns that don't exist anymore, but some do look like viral pictures I've seen of cats with very odd markings. I wonder if they were more common back then?

This is accurate. I have a half-siamese rescue who is basically if velcro and an alarm clock had a very cute baby. Oh & those ancient drawings of cats you linked really makes me think of the new discovery of a cat gene that gives similar patterns to some of them, called “salty licorice”. It’s super pretty & I wonder if it’s related to those ancient cats! https://people.com/salty-licorice-cat-coat-pattern-linked-to-genetic-mutation-8657622#:~:text=Felines%20with%20the%20coat%20pattern,the%20scientists's%20study%20into%20the

I wonder if some of these unusual markings are because of a fever coat. My cats had a fever coat as kittens, and they still have some white hairs because of it
