Regarding Search Functionality

Patrons have reached out to me about the lack of search functionality here on Patreon. Couldn't agree more with these grievances. Especially here on LG Patreon, keyword search would've solved many problems and saved much time. Otherwise, questions and answers risks repetition ad infinitum.

Fortunately, The FAQ and Table of Contents Index circumvents these issues a good bit. Glad to have resourceful individuals like Patrick and Zach around.

Anyway, wanted to share my exchange with Patreon support. Said earlier I'd contact them and see what they had to say, so that's what I've done.

Me:

Hi,

I have a sizeable page (7th in Education) with lots of content. Me and my Patrons are concerned about the lack of a basic search option. Find it strange you can't provide an option to search for keywords and such. So strange that I'm considering moving my business elsewhere if this doesn't get fixed.

Is this a feature you plan to implement? If so, when?

Patreon Support:

Hi Martin,
At the moment, there is no search-ability with posts, but thank you so much for writing in with this idea. I can definitely see how this feature would be helpful.

I shared your suggestion with our engineers, so we could keep this in mind moving forward. While I can't guarantee that this will result in any changes, we make sure we review each piece of feedback we receive.

If you aren't already using our...

She proceeded to recite a how-to for using tags and featured tags which I'm already doing. Wasn't expecting much either. Based on previous exchanges, Patreon support is a bunch of jackoffs with boilerplate answers trying to direct you to the closest topic on their Help page.

Anyway, just wanted to keep you in the loop.

P.S. By moving my business elsewhere, I meant a membership section/site on leangains.com, for example. This won't happen any time soon. But if LG Patreon keeps growing at the current rate, there'll come a time when lack of search goes from pain in the ass to dealbreaker.

Comments

As a web engineer, I can wholeheartedly say that implementing a Patreon-wide search feature for posts is something that would take about a week with MASSIVE testing. I have no idea why they don't implement this. Not every page is some cosplay chick posting nudes...

No one is questioning the donation or value. Just looking for an easier way to access the answers and not post/read repetitive information

If only more people would know what value they get from paying pathethic 10 euros a month for the content you share. It doesn`t matter where its hosted. My guess is that around 4000 members, we can support Martin full-time, by doing this alone.
