August 2025 - Cargo for Whirlies and Spinnies

Hi folks!

I have decided that the next project will be the CH-47F Chinook. While the OH-58 Kiowa Warrior is in a more complete state and would probably be an "easier" module to tackle, it felt too similar to the AH-64 project and I wanted to do something different. A helicopter with a unique tandem rotor configuration? Now we're talking! As I am digging through the Early Access documentation that comes with the module, I am realizing that there are tons of useful info missing... which is infuriating very annoying to say the least.

Still, I can do a lot of research on my own using public information. I thought it would be a nice way to showcase the Afghanistan map while we're at it, which is beautiful and makes helicopter operations quite challenging due to its mountainous terrain and high altitude landing zones.

Regardless, working on the CH-47 seems like a nice change of pace and brings interesting challenges to the table. It requires me to think carefully about logistics-related sections and how to organize them better. This work is all the more important for the C-130J Hercules, which was revealed recently with a pre-order video. Something something synergy, probably.

The C-130 is a module I have waited for a long time and I will likely work on it in parallel with the Chinook since they are both so intimately related to the wonderful world of logistics. I think improvements for either of these projects will definitely benefit the other. The next months will require a lot of research on my part, which means that progress will be pretty slow at first... but it will gradually ramp up. I prefer to build a solid knowledge foundation before starting to write procedures so I have a good idea about what I'm talking about and I have the terminology right. Anyhoo, that's pretty much what's on my plate at the moment.
