Secret Documents #97: Mosquito Guide - Cockpit & Equipment
Added 2021-09-21 13:37:00 +0000 UTCHi folks!
I had to dig up a few pilot manuals, technical manuals, documentaries and even technical drawings to figure some of this stuff out. The Mosquito is a mysterious creature, full of weird intricacies and british-isms. After doing all these guides on modern fighters, it feels great to see a pre-1950's cockpit where no design convention seems to exist and pilot and navigator comfort is merely an afterthought. There are switches, levers and buttons crammed everywhere... even behind the pilot seat. That makes for an interesting study of the plane.

Feel free to consult the attached pdf to see the draft.
As a side note, I've also found a copy of "Terror in the Starboard Seat" by Dave MacIntosh, a canadian Mossie navigator of RCAF No. 418 squadron. I am a few chapters in already, and I hope to take some notes to eventually make a section on the roles of the Navigator, which is something that I think most people will tend to overlook. Now is the perfect opportunity to learn about these weird, cryptic and generally poorly documented aspects of aviation history.
