Ever wondered what that NAVGRID mumbo jumbo is all about? Don't worry, it's not that complicated! Before the era of GPS and fancy toys, carrier groups needed to find a way to play Battleship but on a much bigger and costlier scale. The NAVGRID system is a circular grid that is defined by a reference point YY (think of it as a modern Bullseye, which is a fictional reference point), a Threat Axis (bisector of the grid), a coverage angle and a number of sectors. This way, you can easily communicate with your wingman (or even a skilled GCI) about where the GCI wants you and where the bad guys are at. This looks complicated at first, but once you start using it with your friends online it becomes a very effective tool that provides a lot of information quickly.
