Jan news - Head anat progress; eLabFTW

Hi all you fine Patreon folks,

It's time for a newsletter again! This one has 2 articles in it.

The first is a progress report on our next entry in the Head Anatomy video series. The first video focused on the needed anatomical shapes, and how they would interact with physiological function and behavior. The logical next step, which this second video is taking, is to analyze the underlying tissues, and work out how easy or difficult particular changes would be to those tissues.

This newsletter article gives a brief overview of the work going into the script so far! To give an even more brief overview, basically, bones and muscles should be easy, but bone-muscle/tendon attachments, as well as tendons themselves, would be hard. We generally want to avoid modifying those tissues, and thankfully, it seems like we mostly can. We have also identified some workarounds to preserve tissue function for the attachment points and tendons we can't avoid modifying.

The second article presents a rollout of our Electronic Lab Notebook system, using the open-source eLabFTW software, hosted on our own server! Thanks to Lathreas for identifying this software, and Keiro Ituralde for rolling it out on our server. This article goes into some details about how experiments, as well as maintenance records, will be kept, as well as how resources like equipment, consumables/reagents, and Standard Operating Procedures will be organized. In some ways, this is a somewhat dry article, but it's important to our organization.

Thank you as always for helping make our work possible, and thank you for reading as well!
