The Stygian City: Caves and Catacombs - Patrons' Edition

The next three levels of the Stygian City are finished! As promised, I updated the previous levels with the lower level windows. I also renamed all the previous levels. I'd originally named the first three floors 0, 1 and 2, but I realized that it would take less time to change them to 1, 2 and 3 than it would to answer questions about that for the next several years.

For patrons, I updated the DM notes with an overview of the history of the pit and how it came to be. I'll copy that onto a new file for non-patrons tomorrow so that everyone can get filled in on the story. I'm very curious to know what everyone thinks about it. In any case, this whole place is designed to be very flexible, so if you've got a better idea of what to do with it, you can tell your story instead.

Next up is a drow academy of war, where drow males can go to become useful for something other than reproduction or being beaten for the entertainment of others. There'll be an arena, training areas, maybe even a classroom where students come to study Drow Clausewitz and Sun Tzu. After that, I'll probably draw another few levels of the pit.

Well, I hope you like how it's coming so far! Check out the DM notes and let me know what you think of the story.

Ok, there it is. Sorry for the multiple nags; it was the ONLY zip file I hadn't fully extracted.

Download the file attached to this post called "Stygian-City-456-PRINT.zip" and there are black and white versions of each level inside. These are the files with "BW" at the end of the name.

I'm starting to work on using the first 6 levels for my campaign and I'm running into a logistical problem. It would be great to have an easy way to print each level on one Letter-sized page in black on white (by which I mean a white background with black lettering and lining). As far as I can see the closest thing are 3-up strips that I would have to print as "Posters" and then reassemble. Is that possible to provide? I went back and looked again after your previous answer but I don't see what I'm looking for.

Haha, thanks

Glad you like it! The print versions and the 1 inch grid versions are different. Basically, if you want to print it on a single, fairly normal sized sheet of paper, the print versions are good for that. If you want to print it at 1 inch per tile, the 1 inch grid version is better. The background is removed on those to save printer ink, which they will use a lot of. There's a black and white version of the annotated map in the print folder and pdf, though. The 70px version is lower resolution and smaller in file size than the 140px, which can be useful for people whose VTT is slow at loading larger maps. There's no webp version yet. I may start making them once I can find a decent program for it. There are surprisingly few and those I've tried were really terrible. Anyway, I hope that helps! If there's anything else you wanted to know, just ask.

First, WOW! I am very interested in using this as a base for a rebel group in my Eberron Campaign. Although we're playing in person I find that showing a VTT map works well for this type of exploration, so the black background ones will work well for that. BUT, I am confused about three things: 1. Stygian-City-456-PRINT.pdf seems to have both black and white background 1" grid maps, so that works well if I want to print for play or reference . BUT the 1INCHGRID.zip and pdf seem to be only the dark versions. Is that deliberate? Is it also possible to get the Annotated.jpg in light version since that's much more likely to be printed? 2. Dumb question, but when would I use the 70px vs 140px version? Is it just a "use 140 unless you have space limitations"? 3. I'm not missing webp versions, right? When I see those provided they seem to be much smaller, but maybe that's not appropriate.
