Geoffrey B Small Speaks on Armani

Hi folks,

When Armani passed, I remembered that we had a short segment from over a year ago where Geoffrey spoke on his influences. It's only a few minutes long, but I thought this was rather touching. Geoffrey has been influenced enormously by Armani; his perspective is different than most of the takes I've seen.

Have you ever actually bought anything from any of the Armani brands? If so, what was it?

Recently I couldn’t resist a not very 2nndhand pair of Italian 100% wool pants, labels very small saying Tuttolui Roma and GAG circular entwined logo which must mean all for hm, maybe dated 9/73, BUT THE CUT is massively GA, max volume, double pleats, tiny high waist and narrowing hem. Super drape medium weight soft wool in a diagonal charcoal black “cord”. Screamng yes to GBS words on Georgio, goodbye Yves hello New Romantics. Could it have been 1973 or is that just a serial number?

Hi Bliss and folks

Roy Christopher Sen

Thank you for sharing that moment with GBS, Bliss and Daniella.

Matthew

I thrifted an Armani Exchange hoodie almost a decade ago, and it was one of my favorite tops for a while because it draped in a way that hid my breasts really well even with nothing else under it. Clothes that gave me relief from both gender dysphoria and the physical discomfort of binding my chest were an incredibly rare find, so I treasured it. It fits nicely post-surgery, too, so it's a truly well-designed unisex garment =D The material is soft and lightweight without being flimsy, too.

My first piece was a thrifted 2 button Collezioni blazer when I was 14, that I had for almost a decade.

Hadar

I have an Armani blazer, and a pair of striped silk pants. The blazer is perfect.

This is an unreleased interview 😇 you’re welcome 💫💫

Bliss - can you confirm which interview this is? I’ve watched the two GBS interviews you have but I haven’t seen this one or maybe I missed this portion.

Charles Frederick Worth is generally considered to be the start of modern fashion. You should go look at some of his designs! Many of them are quite dated, but there’s a few where you can see twinkles of contemporary life in them! 💫💫

I bought a couple years back an emporio armani fur mutton leather women's jacket with this crazy fur pattern that had each "crocodile scale" shaved and sculpted. Such an insane piece. I was gonna give it to my wife but i decided to keep it in my reference collection to preserve it haha

On experience with Armani clothing: I had always paid attention to Armani especially during Men’s Milan Week but I had never purchased until recently, since I wasn’t sure I’d fit into his world. Literally a day before this news, I purchased a vintage Armani blue/navy suit in silk-viscose blend from his black label. Something I learned yesterday is he has a recognizable blue (coined Armani Blue) that he started to use as far back as the 80s/90s for his jackets & blue for him was the color of peace and stability. Maybe that is falling for the narrative but it got me more excited to receive something that encompasses his design philosophy in silhouette, construction, material and color. Fit verdict on Monday :)

I love this note from GBS. Very detailed, personal and authentic. More so because this message comes before Armani’s passing. Most tribute I’ve seen since yesterday has sounded quite impersonal - almost ChatGPT-like at best and corporate at worst. I also liked his point on avant garde, reminds me of Issey Miyake’s comment on it as well. In recent time, I think the term has been attributed to dramatic silhouette disregarding the subtle changes that can be done over time. Thank you for this. Curious where can I find the full interview? I haven’t seen this one.

INK

Can someone elucidate who worth is?

Whaddup Seppe! Good to see your name pop up! Same, he is full of insights 💫💫

Wow, crazy! Did you buy it from one of the stores or get it used or buy it from a department store? Congrats on 30 years! That’s a huge accomplishment 💫💫

Bliss Foster

I could listen to Geoffrey talk for hours. Thanks for sharing this clip!

My Armani tuxedo I was married in 30 years ago this December still hangs in my closet waiting for me to fit in it again someday.
