That dishwasher video remake

Good evening everyone,

Since most people responded to the poll about this with "go ahead" - and since this was an easy thing to make in an otherwise busy month - I decided to give this a try.

https://youtu.be/jHP942Livy0

Honestly, this is equal parts "I want to be helpful," "I want to experiment with a remake on YouTube," and "I want to reorganize my thoughts." I put less emphasis on the detergent product this time because, well, it seems like the market is All Pods All The Time and while I have plenty of reasons to be annoyed with that, given how hard it is to obtain plain powder I figured I would emphasize that the least.

I elected not to do bloopers or credits this time. That's in part because this is a remake and honestly pretty lazy content, but also there weren't any good bloopers because I had to re-record this due to a technical error. The second go around has fewer bloops and what few there are are more me being supremely irritated so... yeah it wouldn't be any fun!

I'm editing that Connextras video I tease right now and I'll have that up shortly. My intention is to release both tomorrow so I can spend the day prepping for the next project and also OpenSauce which is very soon!

Oh - and I'll be doing captions for the main channel vid tonight as well as putting chapters in. I'd like people to be able to use the video however they'd like, especially since it still ended up on the longer side. I just can't help myself...

Those Finish Power Ball MAX don't work well for me. Quantum works amazing.

You can usually find an own brand version near the floor in the bigger UK supermarkets. Usually near to the generic rinse aid

Neil Iosson

I just used the info from this video with my dish washer, and it worked! So I HAD to support the Patreon.

Yeah, video was good, but no music at the end was really jarring.

I love your channel and I am only posting this here so I don’t get a lot of angry commenters. The one argument I have for pods is accessibility. For someone with weakness, tremors or limited range of motion, dishwasher (and clothes washer) pods are easier and often literally less painful to use. They are light, can be purchased in small bags, and don’t risk spilling power or gel all over the kitchen (or laundry room). Many products and features may seem quirky or unnecessary, but for people who need them, they’re greatly useful. If I can make one suggestion in making future videos, try to think about accessibility. This is particularly relevant as the Baby Boomers get older and more are affected by arthritis and other conditions.

I should try somethings again on my Siemens... (Sicher ist eines: mann erhalt nur Schrott...)

While I understand why you didn't include a blooper reel, the lack of end credit music leaves me feeling like the video never actually finished. 🫠

This seems like a great version of the video to share, and will hopefully help a bunch more people who don’t have the attention span for “an hour on better dish washing” ;-) Ewen

Yeah, that was concise and thorough. I’m glad you did do it! I’ll try running my tap before the cycle-thank you!

Same it really surprised me to hear this was a problem because my local grocery has 5 or 6 to choose from.

My current landlord special has the same thing and it makes it do a very poor job at cleaning any odd shaped glasses on the top rack. Namely wine glasses. :(

Devon Redekopp

Oh no, that's exactly what it had. I didn't really want to explain the difference and the way those work (where it's just a fan of water at the center) it seems a miracle that they can even clean. But it did!

Are you sure the cheap apartment dishwasher didn't have a telescoping sprayer that pops out of the main spray arm to get to the top rack. Some very cheap dishwashers have this. Usually there is kind of a vertical tunnel in the bottom rack so you can't block it with dishes. (The tunnel kind of looks like an angel food cake pan in the center of the rack).

There’s another workaround for broken dispensers: Just open the dishwasher around the time it should open the dispenser and toss in detergent. My dispenser likes to get stuck shut, so I try to check it a minute or two after the wash cycle starts. I’ve never had a dishwasher with a locking door, so I just open it when the wash cycle is running, check the dispenser, then close it, and hit the start button to resume. Probably not the best approach in the world, but it’s been working fine for a few years 🤷‍♂️

I have no problem getting both powder and pods where I am in Canada.

‡ BLOWN PAST!

Matt Deres

You can still get powder detergent at target! I get a big box of their store brand for like 6 bucks and it lasts forever!

Sara Urban

Great! At 22:45 I really wish for “what you want if your dispenser is broken” reminder.

Good job on this video--it really focuses on the most important points. Been using Wal-Mart powder ever since I watched the first video, but I guess I've been using too much, so that changes from here on out. Thanks Alec.😊👍

Mark Hesse

I just wonder if Barret dies in this one.

Marlo Delfin Gonzales

Ever since the original video on dishwashers, I traded to Walmart powders. And it works great!

Eric B Wolman

As with others, I gotta go online to the store-that-shall-not-be-named to get powder. I typically stock up and buy 4+ boxes at a time.

Dre

I cant buy powder in the shops here in the UK, but since I seen you last video on the subject, I've started getting it online, my machine works better than ever 😉

Kris Gair

Thank you. I appreciate all the work you put in to your videos. I have been following you for years and it only gets better (your puns/jokes get better too). Your efforts really show and I get a lot of enjoyment watching and following. Now only if I could play on some of those pinball machines and juke boxes myself! 💯

Eric B Wolman

Aldi replace their bottled dishwasher gel with their own brand of pods. Now I’ve resorted to name brand Cascade from Menards. 😞

Jake Laack

I for one have been using detergent gel ever since I watched your first video. It's a good compromise I think: it's readily available online, cheaper than pods, let me add some on the door for pre-washing, and it's not as annoying as the powder.

Timst

I have to buy my powder detergent online now!

Patrick Colvin

Curious to see the revisit.... Related, not even my local Walmart seems to stock dish powder anymore. Got a big box at Ollie's bargain outlet at least.

Frustrated Alec bloopers for Patreon only? :)
