So, as Sims 4 has not provided me nearly as many writing opportunities as its predecessor, I've kicked around the idea of doing videos for a while now. I took a brief break from writing for Seasons to experiment with the software and start gathering feedback. I've wanted to do a total beginner's guide for a few months now and realized the potential was huge with video because I can directly show a new player how things are done and explain concepts to them. This sort of gets around one of the problems of my style of guide writing, in that I can provide tips related to the core idea without going wildly off track.
Listing all of the beginner's series in one place is a longer term goal. I'll combine video guides with text because I realize some people (like me) prefer text guides. Listing things like career promotions or gardening plants is unwiedly in video, so text will continue to be my core focus. So this will not be a total change of course, just an addition to the way that I do things. I want to give people options while also expanding my own ability to make content. I've had serious dry spells at times when we've gone almost a year without an expansion.
If you've read my site or played the game more than a few hours, you know all of these tips already. It's just a chance for me to get started.
Things I'm aware of: sound. You need a quality mic to do this. A headset just will not do. I've already got a better means of recording on the way, which will be here tomorrow. Ambient noise is a big issue but I managed to cut a lot of that out and largely avoided any sort of humming. Overall i think this would be the #1 complaint because some people may have to turn it up too loud. It might not be a problem on my video but when you navigate to another, I don't want you getting blasted or startled. Since this is new to me, I'll have to sort out those issues as they come .I've tried to make quality as high as possible for this first attempt (in every way that I can think of).
But I cannot think of everything. Feedback may help me to go forward with confidence and correct issues early on. For this reason, I'm sharing this with Patrons first given you are my core supporters.
Thanks!
