The time has finally come to reveal details of what to expect in Expansion 2.
I'm currently away on holiday at the moment, but I'm returning next week. On my return, I'm aiming to get the Test server up as soon as possible so we can begin testing this Expansion.
New Skills
We have two brand new Skills which will hopefully provide a fun and unique method of training, as well as change up the progression of a standard Melvor Idle playthrough.
Skill 1 - Cartography
This is our most technically ambitious Skill to date, and something we are extremely excited to get on to testing.
Cartography brings back a long lost relic from the early Alpha days - the Map of Melvor. This time, it has been custom designed specifically for this Skill and it looks beyond amazing.
The idea of Cartography is to travel around the Map of Melvor, slowly "discovering" everything it has to offer.
When first loading into the Skill, you will be greeted by a dark, blank empty Map with a hexagon grid. Your main purpose of the Skill is to travel around and survey each hex, slowly uncovering the entire map as you continue to train. Each Hex has a Max Level which determines when it has been "discovered".
On the Map, you will notice some icons on blank hexes. These icons symbolise certain Points of Interest that have some Lore attached to them, or are important for Skill #2. There are also new Combat areas that can only be accessed once you have found them in Cartography.
You are able to freely travel around the Map on hexes you have already surveyed to Max Level, but this comes at a cost depending on the location (GP cost).
The Shop has a bunch of upgrades to assist the Skill as well.
For those who may be worried about the Idle nature of the Skill - we have an "auto travel" mechanic which is designed to be a "set and forget" type of feature. It isn't perfect at the moment, so keep this in mind when testing starts. Just know it will continue to be adjusted to ensure it performs its intended function well.
I'll go into more detail about this Skill's mechanics once the Test server goes live.
Skill 2 - Archaeology
This Skill is basically Thieving but turned up to another level.
There are over 20 Dig Sites for you to locate in Cartography and begin excavating for unique and rare artefacts. These artefacts come in all shapes and sizes - some usefull in Skilling, some to assist in Combat, and some which are downright useless.
Excavation of a Dig Site required Maps which are created in Cartography. Once the dig site has been located and discovered on the Map, you will be able to create Maps for the Dig Site. These Maps will define how many actions you have to use for the Dig Site, rarity of the Artefacts, and other bonuses from Map Refinement.
There are 4 "sizes" of artefacts that you will be attempting to locate for each dig site - Tiny, Small, Medium and Large. There are also 5 tiers of artefact rarity for each size - Common, Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare and Super Rare.
You will be able to select which sized artefacts to dig for (You can dig for all 4 sizes if you wish, or only dig for one size to increase the amount of items you get for that respective size).
Archaeology also has a Museum which has tasked you to locate every single artefact in the Skill and wants you to donate at least one. The museum will offer rewards for donating items. This is also required for 100% completion as there is a Pet to unlock when all items have been found and donated.
New Combat Mechanic - Barrier
Expansion 2 comes with a brand new Combat mechanic that is applied only to new Monsters in this expansion. We call it "Barrier".
Barrier, in simple terms, is a shield. This Barrier is an extra "HP" bar that must be depleted before being able to attack the Monster's standard HP.
What's the catch?
Barrier can only be damaged by Summoning Familiars. A player has no possible method of depleting the Barrier on their own. They must solely rely on the equipped Summoning Familiars to deplete the Barrier for you.
Don't worry though - we have plenty of Barrier related modifiers & gear for you to explore and unlock during the expansion which will greatly assist with this task.
New Gear Slot - Gem Slot
There's a new Gear Slot called the "Gem Slot" added with this Expansion. Throughout your travels, you will find Gems that can be equipped into this Slot. They will help greatly with taking down Monster Barrier's, as well as provide some other unique effects for standard gameplay.
Other Expansion 2 Stuff
Here are some other notes about what has been added to Expansion 2:
- Brand new Gamemode - Ancient Relics Mode.
- Over 500 new items
- 50+ new Monsters
- New Combat Areas, Slayer Areas and Dungeons
- New Prayer Book - Unholy Prayer Book with a unique mechanic
- New Pets (including new Dungeon Pets)
- New Combat modifiers unlocked through certain new items
- Some secrets hidden within Cartography
- New Barrier weapons and gear
As usual, there are still a bunch of TODOs which will be added and finalised during the Test server. The initial Test server will not be the final product, but it will be in a well enough state to start taking initial feedback.
I'll have more details soon regarding the Expansion Test Server.
