Sketches from last week

I've been pretty uninspired by drawing smut for a little while. Seems like part of it is I haven't managed to maintain the reward cycle; I'm not finishing stuff, so I'm not feeling artistically satisfied, and I also don't have quality stuff to post on the internet for <3 based dopamine haha. Inking Interrupted was really rewarding because I was feeling really satisfied with the outcome, feeling competent and proud of my storytelling and inking.

The plan from here is to find the time to force some progress on colouring Interrupted. Once I get going, it will be much easier. FMSqueeze was kind enough to share some frankly facinating colouring process/techniques he uses, which I think will be a great starting point. He does this thing where his flat colours are unusually very dark, and he slaps really strong overlay layers on top, which bring the colours together. I think this will be good, cos I can try out laying down some literal, non-cohesive colours and then blending-mode them into something that works. Maybe. I gotta finish Interrupted so I can move on to new things!

I had a pretty good breakthrough with writing this next comic I have been mentioning and alluding to a lot. I haven't found a good way to share much of that process with you folks though. I will write up a summary of the pitch if any of you are interested in that.

I've also just been really distracted by IRL stuff. I have found a rly nice group of non-flakey friends and going to events and hosting crafternoons, going on a few dates, and playing lots of board games with my housemates. I want to draw more stuff for you lovely people, unstick the gears and such, but I'm also prioritising my mental and physical health right now. I really appreciate everyone who's still supporting during the dry spell!

At least it's a slump because of a healthy and varied lifestyle! I've heard the advice that an artblock is a sign to spend that creative energy other ways, whether that's working in a new medium or on a new subject matter, for a time. I have hopped around mediums that way and while my creative output has never been much more than sparse, I had a good time regardless, and aint that what life is about anyways? Still enjoying the sketches you share, even if they're a little less frequent. I am curious about that other comic idea, also! Happy to be surprised by it also also, but its fun to hear where an artist is coming from for the ideas they have as well, if that'd be a part of it.

Robin!
