2025-08-06 08:05:48 +0000 UTCi think that many people kinda gloss over the fact that ray is an addict. like yes they’re aware he drinks heavily and does drugs but not many people address how his psyche is literally altered. therefore his actions (his nonchalance toward his own life/safety and that of others, his inability to empathize with others, his inability to think critically, and his complete obliviousness to how mew is literally using him and is not actually romantically interested) are a direct reflection of how much he is poisoning his body and brain like…scientifically. like most of his focus is on one thing and that is his addiction, which is anything that makes him feel good in that moment (alcohol or even sand). this is definitely not to excuse any of the horrible things he does but it’s so interesting how ALL of the people close to him are aware that he’s an addict and they treat him like he’s not and are shocked that he’s morally defective? like he needs HELP and nobody besides sand is actually trying the approach of showing him true tough love, holding him *somewhat* accountable and pushing him to get help enough (not to say sand is perfect AT ALL😭).they respond to the symptom (behavior) and not the cause (addiction). But I think the show does a really good job of showing the correct and incorrect ways of loving someone through literal addiction (which no one is required to do btw…but sand does anyway).
