Characters on a drawing must tell a story

I bring you a deeper view on my style and the way I illustrate stories. Characters on a drawing must tell a story, not only with their facial expressions but also with their gestures and body language, enhancing what they say and their emotions, making readers perceive and feel what´s going on.

In yellow, Donna is pointing at Kyle while she talks of him, she even slightly leans tors Bob, letting us guess that she is speaking to his husband.

In green, Alfred points at Kyle with one hand while with he lifts his other one to gesture that Kyle is meant to keep growing big

In purple, Bertha takes her hand to his mouth indicating that Kyle eats a lot. She also speaks about how big Kyle has gotten, but in this case, I only focus on the fact that Kyle has a great appetite since his size is already enhanced by Alfred.

Kyle, in blue, and Bob, in orange, don´t need many explanations.

As you can see if you manage your characters as if they were stage actors, illustrations get more lifeful and irradiate more energy to represent what the scene text is telling. Ask someone to guess what´s going on in your illustration without the text and if you follow these tips to draw he will surely give you a description very close to the text of the story.
