Modular Town Contest - April 2021 - Best Body of Work
Added 2021-04-12 16:11:23 +0000 UTCHello everyone, it’s time to review and vote on the entrants for this month’s community contest! I’ve been blown away by all of the submissions and am excited to see what everyone else thinks as well.
Remember that there are two categories: Best Single Submission (link to other poll) and Best Body of Work (this poll). The two Community Members with the most votes will get a fancy VIP role and 1 year of Tier 3 Patreon, but any worthy entry may have their content added into the Town or Dungeon Module (whichever is more appropriate) where their name will live in glory forever!
Best of luck to everyone who entered, and I hope that everyone enjoys the great work the community has been putting out.

Without further ado, the Best Body of Work entries:
Abominablerob
First up, we have Abominablerob’s submissions. They’ve put together a whopping 17 different buildings for the Modular Town, but they weren’t done yet and also put together a selection of Overlays for Modular Dungeon. I’m considering the Overlays as a single submission with each building as a separate submission. There’s some highly requested stuff in here that I’m sure will get some folks excited.
Abominablerob - Woodcutter’s Home
Abominablerob’s first submission is the Woodcutter’s home. Perfect for populating your rural towns with a bit of professionalism.
Abominablerob - Granny’s Cottage
What woods are complete without an innocent old Granny’s Cottage? The perfect addition for a grimm woodland adventure.
Abominablerob - Potion/Component Shop
For every player that has a potion making habit, there’s a GM in need of an apothecary. Abominablerob’s got you covered with another option that will fit right in to most settlements. This also includes an accompanying cozy home with a fireplace for the weary pharmacist.
Abominablerob - Cobbler
Your players walk a bit too many miles in their old boots? Have them head over to Abominablerob’s Cobbler for a nice re-soling, or perhaps a new pair. Like the potionshop, this submission also includes a suitable abode for the shoemaker.
Abominablerob - Stables
A heavily requested building lately, Abominablerob comes through with the first stable of Modular Town, complete with a small building for the hands and proprietor.
Abominablerob - Cluttered General Store
When you’re outfitting adventurers for a living, your place is going to get a bit messy. The Cluttered General Store brings this concept to life and then some. A fashionable, but very full establishment.
Abominablerob - Poor Man’s Privy and the Patisserie
Nothing works up an appetite quite like adventuring, well, maybe making maps. Treat your players to some tasting confections from this Patisserie, including a fine dusting of flour. And, as we all know, you can never have too many toilets, so there’s accompanying privy nearby.
Abominablerob - Prospector’s Trade Hall
A wonderful companion piece to the recently released The Town, the Prospector’s Trade Hall is ready for all of your player’s mining and smithing needs
Abominablerob - Meadhall
Just as we can never have too many toilets, you can’t have too many places to get a drink. This smaller, more direct meadhall is excellent for finishing up a neighborhood or small town. There’s even a small storage building for more booze and extra cups. A great location for small-town (or business) espionage!
Abominablerob - Bathhouse
AFter a long day on the road, your heroes need to clean up for that big ball up at the count’s castle. Abominablerob has just the place for them to wash up after a long day of adventuring.
Abominablerob - Warehouse
With all of the shops around town, there’s got to be a place to store goods. The warehouse is a small building to add just an extra little bit of immersion to your merchant districts and towns.
Abominablerob - Homes
A nice collection of homes/apartments to house your NPC’s including some nice kitchen and seating areas.
Abominablerob - Aspiring Bard’s Hovel
For the musician that promises they’ll make it into college one day, there’s the Aspiring Bard’s Hovel.
Abominablerob - Peeping Tom’s Boarding House
A great addition to your inn options is Peeping Tom’s Boarding House. Abominablerob has added some secret compartments to facilitate the proprietor’s… indiscretions. This would make a great location for some interesting spy or whodunnit quests!
Abominablerob - Windmill
Abominablerob’s last building, the Windmill is a great, detailed space for your agricultural settlements. The splendid roof is sure to stick out and draw your players in to an interesting encounter within this varied space.
Abominablerob - Overlays
Abominablerob brings in some great additions to the Overlays system, both for dungeons and for the wilderness. This includes some much requested and much needed statue options for both within and without your deadly sepulchres.
All Statue Variants
Captain Windows
Next up we have Captain Windows. Captain put together a great looking “catacombs” tileset for the Modular Dungeon, including a few large room overlays for an extra suspenseful vibe. Not only did he make custom walls and kit-bashed objects for the tiles, he’s packaged them into a full Dungeondraft pack for the community to use!
Captain Windows - Catacombs Dungeon Tiles and Asset Pack
Asset Pack - Custom Bone Assets
Asset Pack - Modular Cofins & Crypts
Asset Pack - Skeletal Walls and Paths
Dungeon Tiles - Walls
Dungeon Tiles - Stairs down
Dungeon Tiles - Stairs Up
Dungeon Tiles
Dungeon - Large Rooms
Dungeon - Altar Overlay
Dungeon - Altar Overlay 2
Dungeon - Crypt Overlay
Dungeon - Throne Overlay
Given the interlocking nature of these pieces, I’m considering this all a single submission as well as a body of work. Excellent spooky vibe, perfect for a Lich’s domain, or perhaps a dungeon in a hellscape? The overlay rooms are complete with a fantastic altar, bloody throne, and another crypt variant.
j03n1nj4
Our third entrant is j03n1nj4. This entry is a real testament to the creativity and resourcefulness of the community, and a great reason why we don’t limit the contest’s scope too much.
j03n1nj4 - Waterwade Sounds
j03n1nj4’s submission isn’t a map at all, but a fantastic collection of sounds and a macro to add water wading sounds to all of your aquatic maps! Ramp up the immersion even more in your stinky sewers or serene pond by letting your players hear their movements throughout the map. Since this isn’t a visual addition, j03n1nj4 was kind enough to provide a YouTube video showcasing this cool tech. (note that j03n1nj4 had collaborated with another community member who added Entry and Exit sounds, but out of respect to them, j03n1nj4 has not included that in their contest entry. If this gets the most votes in the contest, we’ll reach out to both about incorporating the “whole package”)
King Barthur
Next up is King Barthur. King Barthur has been at the digital design game for awhile and has put together some great, high utility buildings for us to consider!
King Barthur - A Humble Shrine
King Barthur’s first submission is a shrine, perfect for a small temple in your city, or a remote temple.
King Barthur - A Modest Accommodation
King Barthur’s next piece is a cozy abode for a rural town or woodland hermit.
King Barthur - The Apothecary’s Shop
You can never have too many apothecaries and alchemy shops! King Barthur brings us his take on a moderate to upscale purveyor of potions.
King Barthur - The Town Watchpost
When your players get out of line, where do all of the guards come from? King Barthur’s Town watchpost, that’s where.
King Barthur - The Village Gaoler
Once the town guards catch the rapscallions, they can haul be hauled off to King Barthur’s Village Gaoler to think about their crimes while the constabulary decides what to do with them.
Rathji/Dork Caracal
Rathji has already contributed a lot of work to the Modular Dungeon project and his submission for the contest is building upon that success! Rathji has a full tileset and pre-built dungeon for us!
Rathji/Dork Caracal - Bonehorn Dwarven Fortress Tileset and Scenes
Some of the Decor Pieces are also animated, check out these short videos or pop into Foundry to see them in action!
https://youtu.be/bKtQIY_eUvo
Rathji’s presents the Bonehorn Dwarven Fortress: a tileset and 3 level dungeon. The dungeon has some incredible scenes already within the Modular Dungeon... module. If you’re interested in exploring more of this you should load it up and have a look around yourself! You can find the tiles and scenes in the “Baileywiki Dungeon - Rathji” compendiums.
Shaftoe
Shaftoe made heavy use of The Workshop to refine their Bathhouse for some serious reddit clout this past month and refine an upper class Library building too.
Shaftoe - Library
Shaftoe has provided both a pristine and a ruined version of this fantastic library. This is a great addition to wealthier districts in the Modular Town while pulling double duty as a nice ruin for players to visit after a disaster or in some forgotten part of the world.
Shaftoe - Bathhouse
Another great piece for wealthier areas of your settlements, this bathhouse comes complete with its own restaurant as well!
Now, once you're done here, don't forget to vote in the other poll for Best Single Entry!!
