I confirm that in the future I will dedicate Saturday to BW pictures, let me explain better, because you always get also the BW version of every picture: I mean on Saturdays I will post ONLY BW pictures made with the Leica M10 Monochrome.
This is going to happen mainly on my regular social media feed, as a bonus picture during Weekend, leaving the 5 color pictures untouched for my followers during the week, because they are more superficial, and appreciate more color pictures (approx. 3 times more likes than BW).
On Patreon I will either post another M10 Monochrome picture, or a color picture of the same model from the same shooting (with the BW counterpart as usual).
Obviously, I've currently made only 4 shooting with the Leica M10 Monochrome, and with only 2 models, so material of this kind is limited, and I may not post this bonus monochrome picture every Saturday.
This first Monochrome Saturday I will start with 2 Monochrome pictures (on regular social media and on Patreon), both from my shooting with Barbora in August, the 25th, in her new Italian house.
I decided to shoot this sequence of Barbora, near the kitchen door, lying on the floor, entirely with the Monochrome camera, because I wanted to avoid any distraction and concentrate on her expressions, the contrast of her tattoos on the whits skin, the leading lines in the compositions, and the tiles pattern with the scratches made by the opening of the door in many years of use.
Barbora can surely be distracting in color pictures, because her bright red hair is jumping in front of the stage, but this young woman deserves to be appreciated also for other things!
I love how the magic of BW is showing us a very different woman from the glamorous model we're used to see.
I think we must all learn to see the world in a different light, concentrating only on shapes, contrasts, and light.
This might take us closer to the tormented souls of the people I'm portraying...
I've started a difficult path towards Monochrome with this new camera, because I want to force myself to improve my BW technique, and change my artistic language, for at least some of the pictures I make.
Same goes for my followers, it is not enough to post the BW version along the color picture like I always do, because most people wouldn't even look at the BW version.
By making Monochrome pictures only, I'm not offering any escape route, for myself or for the observer, there is no alternative, no compromise, we have to learn to see the world in black and white (+ the infinite nuances of grey this camera is capable of capturing).
I know I'm asking a lot from you, but I hope you will enjoy this challenge!
But please enlarge the picture and check out the skin details on Barbora’s body, the skin texture and how it changes in various parts of the body, on junctures when stretched or relaxed or pressed, or when it is covered with tattoos and the thin hair is growing through the ink…
Only with BW from the M10 Monochrome you can see such details.
When I had the intuition to ask her to lie on the floor, I didn’t imagine the photos would come out this good, but now I’m happy I did ask!
