419 - PSP, GBA, INKING.

YAHOO! It’s Monday again, which means I get to once more spam my poor subscriber bros with completely useless information, collect likes and occasional comments. I must have done something really good in my previous life to deserve this marvelous existence. Well, in any case—let’s do this!

FIRST THINGS FIRST! Check out this latest AI slop. Not gonna lie—when I see people upload stuff like this to my Discord server, it kind of makes me want to drop everything and go back to working on Star Channel right away. Unfortunately, I can’t do that, of course, because I’m a responsible indie game dev and plan to have only one unfinished game in my portfolio: Magic Shop -_- P.S. Check the attachment to this post for the full version of this wonderful AI slop Star Channel 34 poster.

PSP. I’m playing Riviera: The Promised Land and really loving it so far. I decided to go with the PSP version (even though the GBA one looks really good on my RG35), because according to Google Gemini, the PSP version has like 50+ extra CGs. Is that true? No idea—but FOMO is real. Oh, and there was also a funny moment where one of the characters was supposed to read an ancient spell or something, but it was just Russian letters.

IRONY. According to Google Gemini (again), the Western version of the game is actually less censored visuals, so I’m playing the US rom, with Japanese audio and English text. It hurts my brain sometimes, because the text often differs greatly from what’s actually being said. The localizers basically rewrote the main character into an asshole—but since every line is voiced on PSP, I mostly just ignore what’s written on the screen and have a good time. ^_^

BEST RACING GAME ON GBA. I conducted some very serious research (watched multiple “Best GBA Racers” videos on YouTube) and found the best racing game on the GBA—IMHO. I tried around 20 different ones, including the ones considered THE BEST EVER, and none of them really clicked. Then I booted up Moto Racer Advance and instantly fell in love with it. It looks great, plays wonderfully, every track feels like a little road trip to another country, and when you unlock a new thingy, fully animated cheerleaders perform a little dance for you. What a great game. ^_^

BEFORE I FORGET. The Android version of The Mating Season is still not available. Xaljio usually handles all the APK repacks for me, but he’s been really busy with some IRL stuff and hasn’t been able to do it yet. It should be ready soon, though.

YOU THOUGHT I WAS DONE? Fun fact: the main reason I wanted an RG35 so badly was so I could play The Urbz on it. I’m not even exaggerating—this game is, for me, the absolute best on the console. I don’t even know what to compare it to… GTA: San Andreas for PS2, maybe? I could talk about this game for literal hours and still not be done, but I’m worried I might actually start bleeding subscribers soon if I don’t dial down this retro-gaming weirdness a bit. P.S. In The Urbz you can become friends with Lex Luthor! XD

HAS SOMEBODY ALREADY THOUGHT OF THAT? A funny idea crossed my mind: what if video game book clubs were a thing? Like a game gets chosen—like NFS: Underground, Jak II, or FFX—and everybody has a week to boot it up, play it, refresh the nostalgia, and discuss it later. It sounds like a fun thing to do to me, but maybe 5 years in the future or something. For now, I am way too busy with work -_-

"SPEAKING OF WHICH... Here is a list of things that took up the majority of my work time last week: writing, coding, inking, falling asleep behind my desk and doing some more writing :) In all seriousness, I am keeping busy but don't have anything that I would be willing to show off at the moment. Still on the skater girl stuff. It gets on my nerves a bit that it takes so long to wrap up her story, but if I start cutting corners now I know I'll hate myself later, so it is what it is. Thank you for your faith in me and allowing me to continue to do my thing in peace, bros. You are literally the best T_T

Yes, that cover made me want to finally find the time to play Jak2 properly again :)

AKAMAN

yooo glad to see you liked that PSM cover. I for one enjoy all your retro posting

musterduck

When I say “Video Game Book Club,” I don’t expect people to actually beat the games. Just play for a few hours—that should be enough, especially since we’re talking about old games that everybody has played already anyway. :)

If I'm not mistaken - girl is Octokuro and this must be one of her "cosplay" videos.

Where does that last April clip come from? @_@

Francesco Villani

Glad you got some games to play to keep you entertained! And as a wiser man than I once said: Do not cut corners, polish them instead.

U cute

Tehir Hidrin

Sounds like you having fun FYI, the mike she is holding is actually a vibrator. She looks like a fun girl and I wonder which one or if she used all that night.

This SC34 poster is really beautiful!!! It was created by 'Nanarul, bringer of light' using AI tools. For those interested, there are more from him on Akabur's Discord in the 'AI-n-stuff' channel.

На протяжении вот уже 6 ти лет я захожу на этот патреон чтобы каждый понедельник разочаровываться...

Honestly, love hearing of the retro gaming adventures. I have been collecting older consoles and soft modding them so right up my alley! Jonestown, have found a lot of games that weren't on my radar that you have suggested that now I want to play, so appreciate you sharing them!

One of my favorite German gaming podcast does the VG club thing. It’s mostly a one month rotation, so everyone who is interested can finish even longer titles like Final Fantasy and such. Talking about a retro game is one thing, but refreshing your memory with all the details, quirks and sometimes badly aged mechanics is good fun.

Danny

Epic news, a VG club could be good in the past, but there are very long games, so must think about it. AI slop get better by the day, and if it doesn't crash and burn soon it will become even scarier. Also nice gaming choices
