414 - Happy New Year!

HELLO and welcome to the Monday issue of AKABUR WEEKLY — your only trustworthy source of news about all things Akabur. (Sometimes, when the stars align, I even discuss my work here! Imagine that! XD)

FIRST THINGS FIRST. Last week we had a serious conversation in the comment section, prompted by my question. Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their opinions. After going through all your feedback, here’s the conclusion I came to: during the first playthrough, the majority of you would prefer to fly blind. In New Game+, however, you’d like the option to switch hints ON or OFF. So, that’s how I plan to do this. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this.

THE PIN. According to MrLazare, everyone has received their pins by now. There were literally zero cases of mail getting lost. That’s good news. Again, a huge thank you to MrLazare for not only creating the pin, but also spending his time sending them out to those of you who wanted one!

RG35XXSP. (GOOD NEWS!) The good news is that I’ve received my console, and it turned out to be way more fun than I expected. It’s perfect for running GBA and PS1 games, it’s super portable, and it’s self-protecting (thanks to the clamshell design). Carrying it around in my pocket with a game of The Urbz suspended—knowing that I could whip it out at any second and jump right back into the game—felt so nice. :)

RG35XXSP (BAD NEWS…). I think the unit I received had a faulty SD card slot. I can’t be 100% sure, but the bottom line is that I couldn’t install custom firmware. I spent two days trying different SD cards and tutorials, with no luck. The process itself is extremely straightforward, but the console refused to recognize any card except the cheap knockoff it shipped with. Even after flashing the stock firmware from the Anbernic website to a good SanDisk card, it still wouldn’t recognize it. That meant being stuck with a cheap SD card that would eventually fail, leaving me with a bricked console. So I made the difficult decision to pack it up and send it back. A few days later, I got my refund and ordered another one. Now all I can do is wait and hope the new unit works as intended. -_-

MORE GOOD NEWS! The fan replacements for my laptop were delivered yesterday! After I finish writing this post, I plan to back up my files (just in case), open up my laptop again, replace the thermal paste, and install the new fans. Can’t wait! This really feels like I’m giving my laptop a new life. Very happy about it XD

THE GALLERY (THE SHOP). I’ve been a good boy and even found the time to add another new item to the shop. Go check out the “Parry Hotter 3” illustration. It’s another oldie but goldie, if I can say so myself. :)

SNOWBREAK. During this year’s New Year celebration, the mother of one of the girls who joined the story recently (Clarina) showed up. During the conversation, the main character casually flashed his six wedding rings, to which the girl’s mother replied: “I trust that you’ll take good care of my daughter too, won’t you?” Ha-ha-ha. I love this game so much XD

THE WORK. I’m happy to report that I’ve had another productive week. I even had a chance to do a bit of drawing—something that always lifts my spirits ^_^ And that’s all I’ll be saying. Business as usual here in the forge (for now). Reporter Trainer coming soon*
