Quick question

Is RWBY actually an anime or just a CG Cartoon that draws upon a lot of Asian influences? Because I couldn’t find it on MyAnimeList when gathering some information for the event. I figured this would be important to clear up with you since Blake is supposed to be representing modern anime in the tournament.

While I completely understand where you’re coming from. I unfortunately do not make the rules, Japan does. By definition, the term “anime” specifically refers to Japanese animation and it’s generally agreed upon that unless it’s released by a Japanese anime studio or manga print, it doesn’t count as an authentic anime or manga. Having been curious about making a manga myself at one point, this was frustrating to learn, but it doesn’t change the facts.

Just because it wasn't made by a animation studio in Japan means that it can't be an anime, I don't like saying this but it feels incredibly racist in that it very much depends on where the content was made to determine if it is or not an anime

This feels wrong limiting anime to only stuff that has been created in Japan, its seems awfully restrictive to close off any other countries from creating anime, despite the huge amount of love that RWBY garners as an anime in Japan

That Guy

RWBY is animesque cartoon/web series, a cartoon with an anime art style.

Max Johnson

It's a web series from the Us

SnapsOfHope

I would put it as a web cartoon thing was literally made in Texas

SUS Mahiru

It is not classified as an Anime. Officially it is an American web series that takes heavy anime inspiration.

I’m pretty sure it’s not really an anime, even if it’s in anime style designs. Similar to some shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender, it’s referred to more officially as an American animated series as opposed to anime.
