The show nailed what neurodivergent, shy, nerd, nonverbal, whatever label you wanna use kids do to try and interact with others. Guy is confident in his likes when alone but around others goes quiet. Like the siging and dancing. Then when he sees someone who he wants to interact with but doesn't know or understand the social cues or norms he brings out something he likes to try a start a convo. Like playing with a new toy very showy to get the other kid to make the first move. Or to read send very strong non verbal signals like being near them or reading something right next to them. Anything to not have to start a convo themselves. Then when seeing other kids interact its more of a puzzle. How do I introduce myself like X kid is? What is the next step in the convo I need to do? Its not something coming naturally through social cues.
