Biome Preview - Sheer Tundra

A part of the Aether whose terrain is so inhospitable that trees aren't able to take root. Primarily populated with dense mosses, short skyroot bushes, and sweeping fields of arctic flowers. While the ground is hard and often frozen, snow is less common here

View Post

Biome Preview - Frozen Lakes

The Frozen Lakes are home to the wyvern-like Varanys, they lurk in caves and under ice lakes waiting for prey to stumble into their view. Their horns allow them to burst out of the ice to ambush unsuspecting intruders, but their lack of hind legs make them slow on land

View Post

Biome Preview - Enduring Woodland

The Enduring Woodland biome is made up of dense skypine forests, which protect the surface from harsh winds and snow. Flowers, grasses, ferns, and mosses flourish here, travelling creatures are able to make their homes outside without the need for caves

View Post

Biome Preview - Frigid Sierra

The Frigid Sierra features tall islands, snowy mountaintops, and rare greatboa trees. The harsh climate of the Sierra causes animals to nest under trees and inside the mountain caves for warmth

Deep snow, unstable ice, and tall cliffs make traversing the Sierra quite a challenge!

View Post

Biome Preview - Violet Highwoods

The Violet Highwoods don't have tall metal pillars to protect it from  lightning, instead it is populated by fast-growing wisptop trees, when  they're struck by lightning they fall and feed the lush undergrowth, leading to a wide range of mosses and plants, as well as fallen logs

Tomorrow we'll take a look at the Aether's arctic biomes! What was your favourite looking feature from the Magnetic theme?

View Post

Biome Preview - Turquoise Forest

Unlike the Scar, the Turquoise Forest is a relatively safe environment, short skybirch trees grow below tall ferrosite pillars that act as lightning rods, protecting the environment underneath from the power of the magnetic lightning storms

View Post

Biome Preview - Magnetic Scar

The Magnetic Scar is a land of jagged hills and giant floating cliffs of a unique metal called ferrosite, lightning bolts arc between the cliffs and pillars, kicking up magnetic sand into the environment

This ferrosite sand clings to the landscape, cumulating static electricity!

What uses do you think this new electrically charged, highly magnetic material could have?

Special machinery? Electronics? New modes of transport?

Biome Preview - Shimmering Basin

Lakes and ponds pepper the Shimmering Basin biome! Trees grow around the edges and sometimes within the pools, lush flora and aquatic creatures make their home under the water!

The open landscape and plentiful water make it an ideal home for many of the Aether's creatures

What sort of Aether fish would you like to see inhabiting the Basin biome?

View Post

Biome Preview - Shrouded Forest

The Shrouded Forests stand in stark contrast to the Verdant Woods, the dense Skyplane covers the surface, so many animals and travellers find it safer to traverse the treetops.

Mossy patches on knotted branches up high are home to many plants that support the surrounding wildlife

Structures like Outposts stand high above the island surface in this biome, what tree top structures and features would you like to see?

View Post

Biome Preview - Verdant Woods

Our next biome is the Verdant Woods! A dense skyroot forest with an undergrowth of moss and fallen leaves

The trees help protect animals and plantlife from the strong winds of the highfields, leading to a tranquil environment

The woods will help add extra variety to the classic Aether style terrain, would you build a base in these lush forests?

Biome Preview - Flourishing Field

Sparse Skyroot and Wisproot trees, open fields with many flowers, and quicksoil deposits scattered around islands You'll find a wide variety of passive mobs roaming throughout the day, and plentiful fruits and crops scattered around the landscape!

Later today we'll detail the next biome, the Verdant Woods!

The Aether II - Biome Overview

Over the next few days we'll be showcasing new biome concepts for Aether II

Starting off with a general overview of the main three biome themes

They make up the 12 most common Aether biomes that will be featured in Aether II, most of the mod's content can be found in these areas

The Highfields closest resemble the original Aether mod, featuring open skies, green grass, colourful trees, and plentiful flowers!

Environmental effects like sudden gusts of wind and rare whirlwinds occasionally appear across these biomes

The Magnetic Hills are made up of four new biomes heavily featuring the magnetic and electrically charged metal called Ferrosite!

Frequent electrical storms and unique vegetation and fungi give these biomes an almost alien feeling compared to the Highfields

The Arctic Peaks are cold and harsh, featuring regular snowfall and icy conditions.

Mobs generally prefer to stay in caves or under trees to stay warm, while the vegetation is uniquely adapted to the freezing cold

Tomorrow we'll go in depth with the first of the Aether II biomes, the Flourishing Field biome!

Guide for gaining access to Moa Skins

Hey everyone, the latest beta builds for the Aether should include all the systems required for using Moa skins you're entitled to as part of your pledge. To gain access/link your Minecraft account to Patreon, you can follow this handy guide over on our GitHub. Unfortunately, due to the nature of this system you do need to download and use the Patreon mobile app.

If you have any problems with this system just let us know, and we'll try to get it sorted out. We'll also be messaging old Patrons who stopped pledging in the past to manually add their UUIDs to the database in the near future.

Hope you guys enjoy your Moa Skins! Make sure to come onto the Official Aether Testing Server to show them off! (server ip is oats.aether-mod.net)

Project Update for November!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to post a quick update on the state of the project and the monumental response to the 1.20.1 builds so far!

For the month of November we reached 1.5 million downloads across all our projects on Curseforge, the vast vast majority of which came from The Aether mod, and the vast majority of downloads from the Aether were from 1.20.1! This is a monumental shift in the project's reach and I think safely puts The Aether back among the most popular dimension mods in this space once again. Our team is really pleased with the feedback and positive responses we've got from these final few beta releases, and we look forward to getting the mod out of beta hopefully in the very near future!

We are nearing the point where we can likely go full steam ahead on a Fabric port of the original mod as well, so hopefully Fabric players won't have to wait much longer for the full fat Aether experience on their preferred platform!

I'd also like to post a little tease for another smaller project we've been working on slowly during The Aether rewrite's development. For those who have been paying attention to addons channel on Discord you may already know that we're working on an add-on for The Aether that reimplements and remasters much of the content from The Aether II - Genesis of the Void from 1.7.10! The working title for this project is The Aether - Genesis and we hope to have a working playable build out some time soon after the main mod leaves beta. We'll likely have more details about plans and release structure in a dedicated Aermail video, probably early next year. For now though I'm happy to show off some of the features we've already implemented, such as the new trees, aercloud colours, and orange bushes! The goal for this project is to integrate GotV's content into Aether 1 seamlessly, which may result in some of the dungeon content being reworked in a way that fits Aether 1 more than the original GotV releases, but we hope to get a lot of player input on that stuff. But yeah I'm really confident that The Aether - Genesis will be a pleasant addition to the Aether Project for players who first stepped into the Aether during Genesis of the Void!

Aether II continues to be a looming presence in my headspace as well! I think we're all itching to get to work on it once these more legacy focused projects are out of the way, but unfortunately it is going to still be a little while before we have playable builds for Aether II on new versions, I'll continue to work on concept art and design work behind the scenes, posting anything I feel noteworthy in the preview channel on Discord, as well as here on Patreon as I go. But yeah for now it is still mostly on pause while we finalise work on these legacy projects.

We're also still working on writing and conceptualising the Aether comic book! It's still early days but I'm hoping we can start showing off what we have brewing for the comic book sometime next year! Very excited to get that in your hands as soon as possible!

Thank you all for your ongoing support for the project, it's been a monumental task getting this whole project back on track these last 3-4 years or so but I feel we're truly back on course and headed in the direction of great new releases!

A quick update on Moa skins

Hey guys, Oz from the Aether team here, just giving a quick update as we have got a lot of messages from confused patrons, want to make sure we're all on the same page when it comes to functionality right now and steps forward!

So first things first, yes the system for redeeming your Moa skins/linking your Patreon to our system is currently down, you aren't doing anything wrong, it is broken.

The system we had set up had a bunch of problems, including locking us out of our dashboard, reverting to a configuration that was only available to an inactive developer, and was just a massive pain that didn't even seem to work how we needed. So we've been investigating and theorising alternative implementations, which we're planning on attempting over the next few days/weeks.

A key bit of context is that the engineer that set up the initial system has very little time available to contribute to the project, so making changes and accommodations with that system was incredibly slow, slower than we need for such a crucial system. Our lead engineer (the lovely bconlon) also needed to take a break this last month to focus on their (very important) academic work, which is why we've not published any fixes for this system so far this month.

Luckily, bcon is now coming back to the project following their break, and we have plenty of ideas for getting the supporter system implemented in a simpler, more robust way.

For now, you do not need to link your Patreon account in-game, it doesn't work and will potentially require a new build of the mod to function. We'll make a big song and dance of things once the new system is implemented and we'll send out DMs to every patron (present and former) with instructions on how to access their cosmetic rewards.

In the mean time, I just want to thank you all for your overwhelming support and kind words about the beta builds we've put out so far, we have MUCH more planned with the Aether project, and I'm really looking forward to showing you all what we've got cooking!

Thanks for your support <3

~Oz
