I don't think that's him, I think he's in season 2.

2025-08-22 06:39:11 +0000 UTCGreat stuff I'm with you on the viewpoint of humanity. And I think that has been borne out through the story of humanity until this moment. The criticism of this will be that it's rose colored glasses that ignore the horrors of humanity / history, but I don't think those things are mutually exclusive. In talking about danger, what I think often ends up being the most destructive is an unbalanced and unchecked concentration of power. The greater the reach of any particular failure point, the greater the potential catastrophe. I suspect that the fear or overwhelming power (and probably also the personal desire for it) exists not solely out of thinking it through but also a much deeper process of natural selection. But that ends up (hopefully) being a self correcting mechanism to some degree at least, as we quickly catch up to whatever the thing was that delivered a single party some outsized gain. There's also... I struggle to articulate this but some solutions aren't the product of any side alone but their mutual struggle. Sometimes things reach a circimstancial homeostasis so that no party can really do much to advance their aims

2025-08-22 05:13:21 +0000 UTCI love the way this show balances these deep human dramas with apocalyptic stakes that come from what UIs are capable of and what they are being used for. And how quickly this show progressed into this higher-stakes playing field after last episode when the upload program was leaked by Chanda. It makes sense that this progression happened so quick because the tech is now out there and changes the world at an incomprehensible pace

2025-08-22 04:57:36 +0000 UTCI really do like that Laurie's message wasn't, "Hey, here's this terrible no good bad thing, be afraid, destroy it and save yourselves." and instead how she highlighted both the danger of this power and how it also has potential for goodness for humanity. Like she didn't directly mention it with her atomic bomb analogy, but of course the research of the Manhattan project not only gave us our most powerful bombs but also served as the foundation to nuclear power, a certainly good thing(though one we've yet to really capitalize on but that's humanity...). And yea, her messaged heavily focused on the danger aspect, with the potential good being a small footnote, but that feels both because the pitfalls are far more plentiful with incredibly deadly stakes and also because it's simply too late to undo or put the genie back in the bottle so to speak. The tech has been made and it's out there and now all we can really hope for for humanity is for us to make good on the positives of it and hopefully not as much the negatives. Actually that specifically really reminds me of a line from season 1 of arcane that's lodged itself in my brain since i heard it, from Ambessa(Mel's Mom) her line regarding the creation of hextech and hextech weapons, "Weapons can't be unmade and they are always used.". I think the "weapons" there can instead be broadly applicable to all technology or inventions(though i guess humans are really good about using anything and everything as a weapon so substituting weapon for a more broad "tools" term isn't strictly necessary). And all this is directly relevant to current day actual ai. Ai is a thing now, and we have to figure out together how to put it to use well and i do think we'll figure it out. I'm an incredibly optimistic person in regards to humanity as a whole when viewed on a long enough time scale. Like we've come so far and made leaps and bounds in the upwards/greater good direction and I think we've been, and it's my hope that we'll always be, trending that way even if certain moments in time feel really bad or scary or like the power of evil is insurmountable. It's just good to remember that we can look to the past and see all the "insurmountable" struggles for good we've won. I believe, assuming we don't self annihilate ourselves, that given time we'll get better, we'll figure out solutions to our injustices, inequalities, great problems, etc. I also really connect with Laurie's character too. There's something really compelling in Laurie's desire to not have an old version of herself be brought back. I remember some few episodes ago i was kinda mulling over this idea that if i was told i was about to be obliterated with no chance of escape but i could choose whether to resurrect an exact copy of myself at my last moments right after i ceased to exist that'd carry on with the rest of mine/their life that that, of course while still lamenting the end of my own conscious experience, would give me some small comfort knowing that at least in some form a version of "me" and my actions would still get to exist in the universe and ripple out as they would've even if i don't get to experience it. But Laurie is being presented with a possible version that's NOT her, going out into the universe and making choices contrary to her current self. A version that makes ripples she wouldn't or would consider bad, and i think that makes sense to not want that or to be scared of the possibility that they won't learn the same things you did that changed you into your current self. Which is interesting contrasted with Caspian as Laurie seems more wary and scared of the potentially different person she'd be or become starting only from just 2 years ago, where Stephen in his hubris seems to really have thought he could just hit the respawn button and come back more or less the same.

2025-08-22 01:58:37 +0000 UTCWelp, that whole peace and freedom thing really worked out, eh Chanda? You've now committed the first digital murder of the first UI, congratulations.... man this oncoming train crash isn't even on tracks anymore, it's going straight into outer space, galaxy express style. And I like how all it took for Caspian to come on board was giving him control of a multi-billion tech company. Why don't more people do that with troubled teens?🤣But seriously, pour one out for Lori here, at the end of everything she thought of everyone else instead of just herself. That's more human then most of us oxygen breathing carbon meat bags could ever be... But yeah, I'm with you, we all know the rest of us watching this would have probably pulled an Arkady the first moment any of us uploaded, I mean who says no to cat girl waifus? 😅
