[EN]SHOWTIMExMONSTERS 2 Dev Letter [vol.52]

Hello, I'm Satoh.

Two months have already passed in a flash.

This winter has been warm, but since the beginning of February, we have been experiencing severe cold weather.

The gradation of the seasons is extreme these days, and it seems as if the periods of mild spring and fall are getting shorter and shorter.

――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

Recently, as I mentioned in my last letter, I have been concentrating on illustrating the defeat scenes.

Unlike 1, in 2, the main character and his partner are exploring together.

Therefore, I had the choice of having the partner appear in the defeat scene, or having only the protagonist and the boss monster in the scene as in the first game.

If I choose to include the partner, there would be three characters per scene, and I would also need to draw three additional partners.

This would have required several times the workload of a normal event scene, so it was a worrisome part, but after some thought, I decided to have a partner appear in the scene as well.

I believe that you will be more pleased if the partner you have chosen appears in the scene, and I myself would like to make no compromises in my work.

It will take a long time to complete all the scenes, but I will work on it patiently and I hope you will wait for it.

In addition to the defeat scene in the upcoming update, which will be 1.10, I hope to add other Ultimate difficulty levels and another secret boss fight.

I still have a number of ideas for updates and would like to work on them in due course.

This time, with sincere gratitude for you, supporters,

I drew two "Valentine Candy Special"-themed special illustrations for you.

――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

This is Candy Shooter from the candy monsters.

It is not chocolate, but it is the perfect monster for the sweet season.

As the name suggests, Candy Shooter is a monster based on the motif of hard candy, and fights by throwing hard candies with a sling.

He is paired with Candy Hammer, who is also based on hard candy motif.

SxM is a game based on the concept of turning various motifs into monsters,

and in addition to general monster and mythological themes, I think the candy stratum is a unique feature of the game.

By including a bright and fun-looking candy stratum, I wanted the game to have a slightly different atmosphere than a typical RPG.

――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

This is Crepe Lancer, also from the candy monsters.

This monster wears a crepe like a poncho and fights with a large fork spear.

The crepe is decorated with strawberries, chocolate, and cream, and his boots are designed to resemble crepe wrappers.

Crepes are a gorgeous pastry filled with a variety of colors and flavors.

In the game, his clothes under the poncho are also properly designed and can be seen when the poncho is wrecked.

――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

That's all for this letter.

I'll post vol.53 on around 2024/3/20.

It will take me a long time to finish drawing the defeat scenes,

but I will persevere to complete it so that I can make a good update.

The cold winter weather is likely to continue, but spring will be here soon.

Please take good care of your health.

Oh yeah, I figured as much. But it didn't hurt to throw it out there. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Thank you! I'm glad to hear you like the monsters' pics :) It is very hard to draw defeated scenes that includes partners, but I think players will enjoy the differences. It would take too much time to do a completely different scene for each character, so basically only the partner's part of one picture would be different (for each boss). Please look forward to it, anyway.

You are the absolute best, Satoh! The art for the update is superb and you chose well the monsters to show off this particular season. They look gorgeous! As for the scenes you're working on, I think you're making a great decision to include your partners in the monster defeat scenes. Yes, this does mean 4 scenes per Boss defeat, and there are 5 labyrinths, so that means at least 20 scenes, unless you count the mini labyrinths as well, which doubles the total, but I think at the end of the day it'll be worth all the hard work to make the game as immersive as possible. However, with having to do the scene for 4 partners all the time, that can get pretty repetitive if all the partners had the same scene. So maybe the scenes could vary a bit between the different partners? I don't know how realistic that is given how much work that is, but it would be a better experience. And I can't wait to see what other potential secret boss you come up with. Thanks a million Satoh!
