[EN]SHOWTIMExMONSTERS 2 Dev Letter [vol.48]

Hello, I'm Satoh.

The long lingering summer heat has passed this year, and the weather has cooled down quickly.

It is now completely autumn, winter will soon arrive, and we are approaching the end of another year.

It was exactly 4 years ago, October 20, 2019, when I posted vol. 0 of the Letter and started the development of this game.

Four years that I continued to focus on the development of this game. It feels strange to me now, as if it was both long or short for me.

――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

After adjusting the overall balance, implementing the mini-games, and proofreading the translation, I was able to successfully complete the game.

Although the release was a little later than I had planned at the beginning of the year, I am very happy that I could release the game with more content than I had thought possible.

I am very grateful to the programmer, translators, and testers who worked hard until the last minute.

In vol. 0 of the letter, I wrote about the concept of creating a work that is a legitimate evolution of the former game while maintaining the fun that the previous game had.

True to that concept, I have been doing my best for the past four years, with the desire to make a new work that surpasses the former game in every way.

104 new monsters, linkage, skill trees, buddy system, and decorative equipment and visible buttocks underwear vending machine.

Original mini-games, dungeons and battles with plenty of volume. The event scenes are decorated with more illustrations than in the former game.

The story, which is a continuation of the former game, has also been carefully directed.

I think I can say that I put everything I have into this work to the best of my ability.

I would like to introduce one of the mini-games and a new system.

――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

This is one of the mini-games, "DJ BUNNY".

It is a simple rhythm game designed in the motif of Killer Bunny.

Use the ctrl key and the left, down, and right keys to press the falling notes at the right moment.

While playing, you can enjoy the animation of the Killer Bunny caricature dancing.

As in a general rhythm game, success or failure is judged by the accuracy of the timing of pressing the notes,

The song is cleared when the Fever Gauge, which rises with each successful press, is kept above a certain level.

Whenever a BGM is played in the game, that song will also be registered in this mini-game and will be available for play.

Not all of the BGM have music scores, but I have prepared scores for about 30 songs, mainly BGM from 2.

(To prevent spoilers, song titles are hidden.)

I have used free and paid resources for the BGM, and they are all great songs that I love.

I think this mini-game will allow you to enjoy these songs in a different direction, as a rhythm game. I hope you will enjoy playing it.

――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

This is the new limitbreak cut-in system.

When an ally monster uses a limitbreak a large cut-in is displayed for a moment before the limitbreak is activated.

Of course, cut-ins are provided for all monsters.

Monsters' faces, which are usually displayed in a small size, are made to be enjoyed at full screen size, even if only for a moment.

The cut-ins are displayed in a crisp manner so as not to disrupt the tempo of the battle,

but it is also possible to set the configurations to no cut-ins, as in the former game.

Cut-ins are also available for the main character and each partner, and are displayed when Linkage is used.

Please take a look in the game to see what the cut-ins look like.

――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

This time, with sincere gratitude for you, supporters,

I drew a "Halloween 2023 Special"-themed special illustration for you.

From the Japanese style monsters, it is Spirit Prankster.

This year, I chose this monster from the Japanese style ghost monsters.

Spirit Prankster, who loves to surprise people, is also a perfect monster for Halloween.

He is adept at manipulating souls suspended by fishing lines at will,

and can even temporarily inhabit and move the souls of fallen allies or discarded tools.

Human souls are an essential part of Japanese horror.

――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

That's all for this letter.

I'll post vol.49 on around 2023/11/20.

As I announced the other day, the game will finally be released on October 29.

This game is a work that I could never have completed alone.

Without the cooperation of the programmer, translators, testers,

and, of course, your warm support, I could not have continued running for four long years of development.

Once again, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I hope you will enjoy this work, which I was able to complete with the help of many people.

Since this fanbox is being run as a form of support for my production activities, I will continue to post letters in the same way even after the game is completed.

For the time being, I will probably write about updates to the game and introduce the new monsters in more depth.

After that, I haven't made any plans at all yet, but I think it will be about the second art book and my next work.

I hope to continue creating good works for a long time to come, so if you would like to support me, I would very much appreciate your support.

Thank you! I am glad that the day will come when you can actually enjoy the monsters I have shown you in the game. Your health is the most important thing, so I hope you take good care of yourself. I will continue to create and I hope you will enjoy my work for a long time to come.

サトー

hello Satoh, I am really impressed by your passion and all these monsters you create are incredible, I am happy to support you and I am sure that others are just as impressed, I hope of course to support you as much as I could, my health is not as strong as I thought, but that doesn't matter, your talent and your imagination must shine ever more, thank you satoh san, I can't wait to discover your work.

Thank you! I have put a lot of effort into the mini-games this time around, and I hope you enjoy them. Fortunately, even though there are a lot of skills, it runs without any problems even on a low-spec PC. Skills are the very character of the monsters, so I worked very hard on them. I hope you are looking forward to the release date.

サトー

Thank you! I'm glad to hear you like him :) and I hope you'll enjoy the minigames too.

サトー

Woohoo, rhythm mini-game! Much like grappling hooks, they make any video game even better automatically. You mentioned in the previous dev letter that there are over 2000 skills in total! If I remember correctly, most versions of RPGMaker need additional scripts and other workarounds to bypass the 999 database limit for skills and other elements. Even newer versions of the software will display a warning when creating more than 2000 database elements, informing the user that the large amount of data might affect performance. Of course on modern machines this isn't ever an issue, but I hope it puts into perspective how much work has truly gone into this game! As players, we won't ever see the database information during regular play, but I'm sure the massive list is a staggering sight to behold. It feels surreal to see the game will be released in just nine days. More than ever, I'm really looking forward to exploring and savoring every little piece of it!

Brohypnol

So amazing to hear! And I love the little artwork of the prankster and am looking forward to the dancing bunny!

NoxVentus

Thank you! I really put a lot of elements in during the long development period. I hope you enjoy them :)

サトー

It's amazing how much you got done since your first dev letter! I can't wait for the release of the full game! Congrats :D

bombthehole1

Thank you! I'm glad to hear you like both of them :) I am very satisfied with the completeness of this game. please look forward to it.

サトー

Only 9 days until release! I'm so excited. I love the combat cut-ins. I can't wait to see and enjoy all the new and old monsters. Excited to see a Killer Bunny themed mini-game, he was always a favorite of mine. Congratulations on all your amazing work!
