Campus Lyfe (Progress Update #7)

Greetings, it's time for another dev update regarding the development of Campus Lyfe. It's been 2.5 months since the last update so I just want to key everyone in on what's been going on.

Here's a breakdown of what I have been able to achieve:

Renders & Animations

As I previously stated, Chapter 1 is going to be the biggest Chapter of Campus Lyfe. I have finally acquired and started utilizing a batch renderer. This has been huge and due to this, I will be finishing the renders by next weekend. It will take approximately 50 - 70hrs or so to render the final renders when I am done posing them. This is a week of non stop rendering which will be done overnight. Animated scenes have already been posed. They will be animated and rendered once the renders are done. I still see a summer release happening and Beta Testers (i.e. $10 patrons) will be getting the beta build early August. The full release will depend on how many issues they find but I like to give at least one week for play testing and bug fixing. A channel will be created in the Discord server for that.

User Interface/Mechanics

I am almost done with Phone App 3. I just need to do the free roam sections next and the hard part would finally be over.

Writing/Story

No issues here. Since I am far enough into development, I will however address certain issues now so there is no confusion later since I have seen a couple people ask some questions on the Discord, in my DMs and on other platforms.

• Question: What is the story about?

  • Answer: It follows the main character (default name: Toby) who works for a secret government organization. He's a rookie who gets his first solo assignment to go undercover at a university/college. He soon realizes that he may be in over his head and he is forced to confront people from his past as he realizes that life on campus is not exactly a walk in the park.

• Question: Is this netorare or vanilla?

  • Answer:

    • It's a story. If you're the type to get offended by female characters interacting with, being pursued by, being attracted to or being affectionate/intimate with other male characters or each other then this is not the story for you. I appreciate your support to this point but this is me being honest. Some female characters have significant others, some female characters are in professions that entail some kind of contact or perceived contact with men, some are just single and are doing their thing.

    • Just because Toby is going to fuck a bunch of women does not mean that they'll all be sitting around looking pretty and waiting their turn. Half of the core harem or fuckable women have pasts and most aren't virgins. Heck, half of them are older than Toby. This is not a super vanilla fuck em all college harem where the MC is the only attractive guy in the world and the women are all virgins begging for dick. I am trying to tell a story with porn.

• Question: Is this harem or a dating sim?

  • Answer: It's a harem. However, you will not be able to fuck every pretty face (at least not canonically). The relationship types will also vary. Some relationships will be more transactional than others.

• Question: What about choices? Will they matter? Is there branching?

  • Answer: Branching bloats dev time and causes scope creep. I do not have the equipment and resources to develop heavy branching at the moment. This might change in the future for future projects. Most of the choices will be dialogue focused and can unlock bonus scenes but the core story remains unchanged. There will be the option of having an optional 9th girl join the core harem though. The choice is up to you. So, I guess you can say there are going to be 2 endings or rather 2 variations of the ending.

• Question: Will there be minigames?

  • Answer: At the moment? No. However, I will run a poll at some point and if enough people want them then 1 or 2 will be added in future updates.

• Question: Is this going to be a Sandbox?

  • Answer: I guess you could call it a partial sandbox. It follows a similar format to VNs like Being a DIK i.e. free roam sections scattered throughout the story.

I will not be continuing fanart renders until I release chapter 1. As such I have paused billing until then. Please let me know if you were charged for June and July so I can refund you if I haven't already. I did not post anything in June so I can't charge you guys for that.

Conclusion

I still believe I can make a summer release for the Beta build at least. As for the Q/A section above, I hope this answers any questions. I will post them in the server under FAQs so that anyone can read it at anytime. I want to avoid confusion so that I am not accused of deceit. I also don't want people fighting and arguing. This is me managing expectations. Thank you for your patience and continued support.
