Cape Escape Vibes - Javier

While we're away this week, we thought we'd treat you guys to some character vibes playlists for the Cape Escape crew.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhFUzvyRnohBDE8X8Swfzr_eFVhtAaUCQ

We're starting off first with Javier! IllusoryWall hits us with us some songs that conjure Javier vibes and shares his thoughts on them.

Blonde Redhead - Mind to be Had

Javier isn't incapable of introspection and has spent some time thinking about his failed relationships. Javier's past relationships aren't a rollercoaster of intense emotions. There's no volatile explosions; No messy breakups, just a steady and unchanging status quo. Musically, the somber tone and unceasing, repetitive groove captures his particular flavor of loneliness; One that's induced by preferring to be alone. For now.

Colin Stetson - Among The Sef (Righteous II)

Fell in love with this song when I first heard it in the Uzumaki teaser from about 4 years ago. It's a live recording of a guy playing a saxophone while simultaneously singing/ humming through it, relying on some absurd circular breathing technique. It's very hypnotic and entrancing and I feel like this would be Javier's vibe when meditating and trying to witness the other side.

The Fucking Champs - On Seas of Sorrow Sail Death's Ships

On the verge of a "bad trip", Javier does his best to stave off haunting and oppressive imagery. Of everything in this playlist, I feel like music that sounds like this would be most appropriate in a VN scene where Javier tries not to lose his mind.

Death - Story To Tell

His ability to drift into the lives of others and recount their stories with a much greater clarity than ever before makes him feel that all of the decisions he’s made up to this point have been validated, no matter the amount of sacrifice involved. “When you think of me, in your multidimensional mind, try and wash the evil from your mind and open it. When you taste the truth, you will see like others. Before me to you, I am past a story to tell. To you, I am past a story to tell.”

Hella - There's No 666 in Outer Space

The song opens by saying "Purest of knowledge lays and waits", but Javier begins to wonder at what cost? The idea that "there's no 666 in outer space" puts a smile on his face. He thinks to himself "it's not hell, but it's something else". The incredibly intense and chaotic nature of the song represents the peak of his struggles with addressing his obsession. It also reminds him of his tenuous grasp on his visions of the other side, despite his recently-improved abilities. With the section (chorus?) at 55 seconds in, he wonders how this song was even written. If someone came to you with that vocal line, how the fuck do you come up with that drum part? Or that guitar part? These parts barely match and sound like they each belong in their own world. Just as the other side feels layered over our reality, while scarcely interacting and existing in its own space. Yet, all of it is still somehow part of a bigger whole.'''
