There is nothing wrong with starting from the very beginning, in fact that's where I would prefer you to start the pokemon series. (i'm super sorry if this is considered a spoiler) but these specials do connect into the main series in a wayyyy later season so I'm afraid that by the time you reach that point you would most likely forget everything about these specials.
