Early Monsters - Ripoff Marmablue
Added 2018-04-04 12:13:13 +0000 UTCThe Secret of Mana was one of my favorite games for a solid couple of years straight when I was a kid, and I was OBSESSED with an enemy in it called a "marmablue," resembling a flying jellyfish. It was the combination of "flying jellyfish" and super cutesy, weird name that I guess I fell in love with, and I outright plagiarized them for the setting I had at the time.
Bit by bit, however, my version of the Marmablue became more and more menacing. I liked to think it was actually one of the most feared creatures in the whole continuity, and had a mix of electrical, poisonous and telepathic abilities. I remember that in its very last iteration, it had vertical, eerie Hedorah-eyes and barbed pads on its tentacles, different enough from the Secret of Mana enemy to probably qualify as an original design....but just barely.
