Widoweed redesign sketch

Widoweed is one of the older Mortasheen illustrations, and it really...doesn't feel very "Mortasheen-like" to me. The design has always been a little too human, just a straight up "sexy woman with fly trap leaves for arms."

This latest attempt at a revamp concept seeks to do more with that idea; the fly-trap jaws would really look like they're also the monster's arms and hands, they would form a valentine heart around the seductive siren-monster, and eyes on its "hips" would make it look a lot more like a non-humanoid imitating a humanoid. The "woman" is just the interior of its mouth.

sorry for being off topic, but your icon!!!! i love the original chibi robo game so much...

Whoa, this is excellent! The best "sexy deathtrap" monster I've seen in a really long time.

I've actually phased that out with a few other "siren-like" monsters. It works with animals, like the orchids that attract only male bees, but Mortasheen monsters have much more human-like individuality, so it would be subjective.

Yeah, something like that would be a lot better IMO

I bet it'll get a writeup similar to Abysmal's new one that states it quickly learns to mimic other preferences, or will change to sday that it's based on sexuality and not phiscality

There already is a monster that does the same thing for males and has a lot of the same issues I mentioned.

Doctor Starky

maybe it could come in both male and female forms?

I love the redesign, but have you considered phasing out the “only attracts males” aspect of the creature? Even among species that generally have a sex-binary, the exact genetic criteria of what makes an animal “male” or “female” can vary pretty wildly. A hormone that can consistently affect a single sex across many species isn’t much more of a bastardization of science than anything else in the setting, but it seems like kind of weak justification for such ancient, hetro monster power, especially considering how anarchic the setting. Like, I would really hate to tell someone playing a trans woman/non-binary character that Widoweed canonically has power over them because they are “biologically male.” It’s also not terribly strategically interesting in that a monsters gender (assumedly) doesn’t have any impact outside of powers like this. It just seems to arbitrary cripple half of all monsters.
